End of terror, a photo from Antwerpen, Flanders

Photographer's Note

Brabo Fountain at Grote Markt of Antwerpen.

Legend tells that a giant terrorised this neigbourhood, collecting huge taxes from shippers on the Schelde river. If someone refused the giant would cut a hand off and throw it to the river. Finally a hero called Salvus Bravo fought against the giant and ended the terror.

Nice view of this famous fountain, I like how you framed this with the arc of water encircling the golden horse. An alternative would be a close-up with only the statue, the water, and the gable. And an alternative title would be "End of the War on Terror", well wishful thinking I'd say, seeing the latest political developments... ;)

Hi Kari, your travelling is so widespread, we are now in Belgium, a country that is not seen enough on TE. The vertical lines of this photo contrast beautifully with the solidity of the fountain and I like how the water almost embraces them. Beautiful saturation and depth have created an excellent shot. Hello dear Kari,

Great to see another shot from my hometown. I'll look closely, because the café just behind the statue is a regular stop for me on a sunny afternoon stroll in the old town.

Classic and succesful capture. I've tried the same, but found it difficult, maybe because I know the view just too well, and then I went trying extravagant pov's and odd angles, but that didn't work really.

Whatever this legend tells us, your picture is still very fine. I like the way you have caught that part of the water right in the air, and the way this water is placed around the top of the higherst building! A very good composition detail!

Hello Kari,
Very nice and colourful capture of one of the most visited squares in my country.
I like this picture combining the famous statue of Brabo with the beautiful façades of the houses in the centre of Antwerp.
Well composed with the water drops over the top of the façade in the middle, the visitors at the left side and the carriage at the right side of the statue.
One of these days I'll also post my version of this statue, a little different, certainly not better, just a little different.

Beautiful and colourful photo of Antwerp. I really like the framing as well as the saturation. It's amazing the way the water gush from the high has been stopped in the air. Perfect, I would say.
