During a weekly visit to Bruges.

The Spiegelrei is a watercourse and a street in the center of Bruges. The rei runs from the Jan van Eyckplein to the Langerei. The street of the same name is on the north bank of the rei and runs from the Jan van Eyckplein to the Carmersbrug. The street Spinolarei is located on the south bank. Under the Jan van Eyckplein the water runs through as the now overgrown Kraanrei. The Spiegelrei is part of the course of the original river Reie.
The name "Spiegelrei" would come from a speghele, which in the toponymie is an elongated water. It is possibly named after the house "De Grote Speghele". The name also refers to the presence of various mirror makers.
Originally, the Spiegelrei had three bridges: the so-called New Year's Bridge or Sint-Jansbrug, the Koningsbrug and the Carmersbrug. The first, which was in the continuation of the Wijnzakstraat, however, disappeared in 1787 due to the outcrop of the Kraanrei and the construction of the Jan van Eyckplein (then the Academy Town).
I hope you can enjoy.
