Photographer's Note

Good Morning Everyone,

If you have been following my recent posts, you will know that I have been showing images of the Falkirk Wheel, a subject that I have been yearning to see since I saw it on a television programme.

Before I move on, I hope you will be willing to share my passion and to see a few more photographs that I took of that amazing technology!

My photographs show the wheel from different angles, to show its size, its beauty and its shape.

This one is a close-up showing how the barge compartment fits into the circular cog wheel. At the bottom are the wheels that move to keep the barge horizontal as the compartment moves up or down.
It takes remarkably little energy to rotate the wheel, just the equivalent of boiling eight kettles.
