Back to the NY Bridges theme with one of the most influential bridge in American history.

One of New York City’s most celebrated architectural wonders, the Brooklyn Bridge stretches 1825 m over the East River, connecting Manhattan and Brooklyn.
Designed by the brilliant engineer John Augustus Roebling and completed by his equally ingenious son Washington Roebling, this elegant structure was at the time of its completion in 1883 the longest suspension bridge in the world.
Emily Roebling was given the first ride over the completed bridge with a rooster, a symbol of victory, in her lap. One year later, in 1884, P.T. Barnum demonstrated the safety of the bridge by parading across it with a herd of 21 elephants.

The bridge is anchored across the lower East River by two neoGothic towers and a delicate lacework of steel-wire cables. For several years after completion, the towers were the tallest structures in the Western Hemisphere.

The Brooklyn Bridge has a wide pedestrian walkway open to walkers and cyclists, in the center of the bridge and higher than the automobile lanes.

The day I took this picture was very cloudy. You could hardly see the Empire State Building from Downtown. The weather conditions give this picture a soft touch that I enjoy a lot. To accentuate this effect, I desaturated by -5, this together with the frame being the only PP to the photo.
Thank you for your comments.
