Hi Federico. This is a great image, and you are right, the cloud certainly adds to it. And you are also right about the problem digital has with very bright subjects--unlike film, digital doesn't handle such situations very well. You will get chromatic abberation, which gives you the circles of different colours. There are many online articles explaining why this is so if you are interested. It's ironic, you will often hear people telling us how superior digital is to film because it doesn't have film's grain, somehow overlooking the fact that digital simply doesn't match film's handling of highlights :) Don't get me wrong, I love much about digital, but I know its limitations :) regards, Sheldon (shel)

Hi Zigurds. This could have been a very fine photo, but it is overall too soft. The composition is good, the exposure appears fine, and it has a lovely cold light, but it is not sharp enough. A very light USM in Photoshop would help greatly . . . and a comment with each photo you publish is considered good form in this forum :) regards, Sheldon (shel)

Hi Nigel. Lovely subjects do not always make for a good photo, as we all know :) However, you have done this subject justice with your treatment of it: you have exposed for the highlights (such as they are) without losing any shadow detail. Indeed, the majority of the scene being in shadow enhances the feeling of cold, crisp air. You also chose a time of day that gave you a truly beautiful light. Lovely, regards, Sheldon (shel)

There is a photo on this site that shows a woman in a third-world country trying desperately to avoid having her photo taken. She is clearly in extreme distress. The note attached to that photo basically explains that the photographer doesn't give a damn about the woman's distress. That I find obscene. And yet, that photo attracted only 2 negative critiques, compared to this one. What a strange world we live in. Sheldon (shel)

Salam Farshid Faraji. this is a beautifully rendered image; the exposure is perfect, but the composition is superb....the inclusion of the children and the adults walking and talking add a warm and very "real-life" presence and vitality to the setting. Exellent! regards, Sheldon (shel)

Hi Davie. A very fine photo, beautifully layered despite the tendency toward full silhouette--the exposure is just enough to avoid the blocking out of the foreground. Beautiful! And "lost to flare"? I remember a time when flare was not reason enough to lose an image :) regards, Sheldon (shel)

Hi Fabrice. A well exposed, crisp, very colourful image. It is a shame the goods hanging over the top right are not exposed such that we can see what they are (instead of the distracting black lump they are), and the background is cluttered and, compared to the fruit, messy and distracting...however, it does set the scene somewhat so this is a bit of a nit pick :) regards, Sheldon (shel)

Hi Dan. This is a well captured illustration of Angkor Wat's sole function now: for tourists to gaze upon. Your photo highlights the rather sad comparison between its very shallow existence now and its obviously glorious past. A powerful commentary. regards, Sheldon (shel)

Hi Jarek. What an intriguing and beautifully lit image--to me there is something almost apocalyptic in the mood here. It's a shame there is no note covering the PP used here: I'm sure there would be interest, especially in the pp you employed. regards, Sheldon (shel)
