To daveRen: Thanks
This was taken with a quite old Kodak digital, back when 4 mp was HUGE. There wasn't a lot of manual control, thus the overexposure. I sort of wanted it this sort of effect though, as it seems to...

To samratrayc: Thanks
Thanks for your comment. I agree. I think the "soft" look came from the lights on the bridge reacting badly to the long exposure - 1/2 sec. The sony has noise problems, so I couldn't pump up the...

To macjake: photos of lightning
I just set the camera to take 15 second exposures, then took about 50 photos. I don't know if this is how you're supposed to take lightning photos, but it seemed to work. You have to have a tripod...

Thanks for your workshop. I agree, that's a nice version of the photo too. Your version focuses on the birds. I wanted to emphasize the contrast of the dull, smooth beach with the vibrant birds. ...

Re: To tuffellow: Hello!!
Thanks for responding. I just looked at your page, and noticed you only have 4 photos up there?! You should get posting more photos! The more photos you post, the more you learn!

To ohe: ISO
Ya, I was new to my camera at that time, so I didn't know exactly how to use ISO. It was probably on 1600. I didn't think the noise would show up in 800X600 resolution, so I didn't run it through...

To sarahnatalie: nice days in the spring?!
I hate to break it to you, Sarah, but this day was a little foggy, and definitely cloudy. So, I guess it was a typical spring day in Halifax. Well, at least it didn't snow, like it did in May 2...

Thanks for your comment. I agree completely. I should have asked him to dive off of the rock to the right. Oh well. Next time.
Thanks again,

Found him. You're right, he is very good. (Don't tell him, but I like your photo of autumn trees better than his!) Congrats to the two of you though, you are both very talented.

Re: To tuffellow: Black and white
I just thought that the wall already has a great deal of detail in it, and sharpening just makes it seem like too much.
Great photo though,

Re: To tuffellow: Post-processing
It just seems like giving that cooling effect made the blue look artificial. Maybe try selecting only the orange part and "cool" that, while keeping the original blue hue on the right hand side.

Re: Additions to TOS
I don't see the big deal. Think about the name of this website and its purpose. It's to see and learn about different parts of the world and photography. Plain and simple. I don't think that...

Possible maps on TE?
I like to use TE to help plan trips as well as improve my photos. Many times, posted photos are from towns that I have never heard of, and are difficult to find on maps available to me. I think...

I would guess that at least 75% of the people on this website are beginners at photography (me included). You've done a great job so far with your photos. Keep up the good work!

I've always been in search of that sunbeam photo too. I'm still looking though, because of the overexposure on this one. The best place to find sunbeam shots is in the morning in a foggy forest,...

I completely agree with what you say. I think a negative but constructive critique is 10 times more useful than a plain "nice photo" critique. - even though those are nice to hear once in a while....
