There are usually 2 different tours: one for regualr tourists and another for photographers. The one for photographers may cost more, but you are not rushed. Also, there are usually fewer people and of those everyone is there to take photos. I do not know if they are open during winter, but I went during the days around Thanksgiving and there is little light so you can be a bit more curious about the rock formations instead of getting dazzled by the light. I'm told that during the summer there are more crowds but the light beams are magnificient. Also, while in the area try visiting "the wave", the lower antelope canyon, and the "horse shoe bend".
