Going to Germany, Czech, Slovenia, Poland, Austria & Hungary very soon

I have never been to this part of the world, and wanted to know if it's pretty safe walking around with my camera as it is here in the U.S. I had a great deal of trouble in Guatemala - the locals told me to put my camera away and therefore I was limited to photography during my vacation. Any suggestions/warnings? Thank you!
