Default To somak_g: Datia

Yes Somak, I've gone to Datia & it's incredible a palace, very similar to but better than Orchha's palace.
Pictures later.
Thanks for your critique

Angshu

I know its better - that why I asked you. But people are not aware. I came to know of it from a book called ' The forts of India', when I was in college. Its an incredible book - on of the best I have come across.

That book - The Forts of India has I think gone out of print. I bought a book Forts Of Bundelkhand by Rita & Vijay Sharma...but AFTER my trip. I knew about Datia from searching Internet & belive it or not, our own Bhromonshongi (to me the best travel book ever!!! I think now it's available in English as well!)

Its dificult to be sure because it was a foreign publication written by a lady - I have forgotten her name. After that book, I read about Datia from books on architecture. The best books on Indian architecture have been written by foreigners !!! It also lists some uncommon ones - which I plan to visit : Kalinjar fort & Sher Shah's tomb at Sasaram. Kalinjar is difficult because that area is infested with dacoits. People take police escorts to go there.

This book I mentioned also has good info about Kalinjar Fort. ' The forts of India' is written by Virginia Fass, but as I said is possibly out of print. Yes I agree with you, the best books on Indian Architecture are written by foreigners. I picked up a book from Jaisalmer written by an Indian, but bad writing, bad editing mars the reading experience.
