Photographer's Note
Dunes, dunes and more dunes is what you see when you stand at the limit of an oasis. Think that you could walk out there and not see anything else than giants piles of sand shaped by the wind for hundreds of kilometers. Immensity...
By the way, if the Desert had to take a human appearance, would it choose to be a woman or a man? And don't let the picture influence your answer :))

Fascinating structures - I would have cropped out the small dark area in the lower left though - it is a bit distracting in my opinion.
Laurenz
PS: I would have called this one "erotic desert"... ;-)

Una fotografia muy bella. Anque me sobre el aguero del primer plano. El color y el encuadre me parecen muy acertados y sugerentes

This is an eye catcher Nicolas. Beautiful curves and "fingerprints". I'd definitely think it would choose to be a woman :)

Love the texture and different patterns in the sand. The shades of colour are also great. Well done.

Very seductive shot. I think it would be even better if you would clone out the dark spot in lower left corner. Desert as man or woman?? Hmmm, I think woman, due to the soft shapes and soft feel, and a quietness... until a strong wind blows! -Jenn

sur la vignette j'ai pensé à autre chose... très érotique ces courbes des dunes... (ça rappelle aussi un parfum) la luminosité et le piqué sont excellents.

Awsome view, a breathtaking perspective of infinite sands. The warm colour adds to the atmosphere and, yes, womanish associacions come to play (good Note!). Tom

Beautiful graphism created by these dunes. It has very sensual curves, looking like skin at first glance. Then comes another view: digital prints.

I liked your picture very much, the colors are amazing, and you managed to show how giant and infinit this desert is.
Good job!

Whoa. That is some sexy-fied sand! I'd crop out the unsightly spot in the bottom left, but other than that the shot is well seen, nicely composed, and pleasingly surreal.

Very sensuous in its curves, but how do we know that it's immense as the title suggests when there's nothing in the photo to give it scale?

This is very engaging and effective, Nicolas. It's a featured photo today on the TE home page! I'm glad, for now I'm able to find it and see it. Certainly nature takes the form of woman when it has a choice! Lovely use of light and shadow to define these features.

Luckily, this one and "backbone of a desert" are today's featured photos otherwise I may have missed these superb images. You should start a theme called "anatomy of a desert". They are exceptional images (but I do agree with laurenz about cropping out the small dark area in the lower left. Or cloning it out may be better). Congratulations.

Good eye, good idea- to be honest with you that picture looks much better when we are watching small size because small size looks on the begining like.........., . To me is really wondering how many people viewied your picture? Isn't it? Maybe because on the begining looks like .....? Maybe? Who knows? Where is the board between art and ...? Anyway, original and very good eye about composition.

Fantastic shot. Very fluent and smooth. The colours are great and the frame you added complements the composition very well. As to your query...hm..the appearance is feminine in it's round shapes and the tomnes are those of skin. That's the simplest answer, but i guess many other interpretations could be used here.

In German the word desert ("Wüste") is female, so I can't imagine it to choose to be a man ;) I like this photograph a lot, very nice symmetry and it almost looks a bit unreal...
gannu (81) 2007-03-26 8:08
Great simply amazing and you just simply imagine whether it is male or ???
ilghiz
(708) 2007-03-29 9:46
I hadn't read your notes when I saw the thumbnmail and it made me think of women... I think desert is a hot, passionate woman. This is obviously your pic's influence... In Russian the word "pustinia" (desert) is feminine, so the desert is viewed as a woman... Moreover, the dunes have more female shapes than male, I think.
------------------------------
Now technical part. The compo's beautiful, the lines are wonderful (who doubts?) and I like the frame: if there ewre no frame the picture would fade into the site's background color. I love to see the "fingerprints" of the desert...

Bonsoir Nicolas,
A bientôt

Salut Nicolas,
J'aime bien la manière dont tu nous proposes cet épiderme désertique, tout en courbes féminines et maternelles...
Quant à la dominance masculine ou féminine du désert, j'attends de me rendre dans l'Adrar en fin d'année pour te répondre :-)
Meilleures salutations,

Hi,
The ripples and the shades indeed add an almost erotic element to the picture. Though you could have cropped out some uninteresting portion at the top of the frame.
