Photographer's Note
Outside Al Hussein mosque, in the district known as "Islamic Cairo," as the faithful gather in the evening, a man sells drinks, a boy sells bread, and a woman watches over one of them (or maybe over both.)
Islamic Cairo is named for the Islamic period, when it was the heart of the city--roughly the same as medieval times in Europe. Al Hussein Mosque was built in 1154.

Hi Ken,
Interesting, you show us an image of Islamic Cairo and my last post show Islamic Calgary. I like the dual tones for this composition as it make the image older. Good composition showing excellent details of the mosque as well as street life. Thanks Ken :-)

Bonjour Ken
j'aime beaucoup l'utilisation du grand angle dans ce genre de photo. On a ll'impression d'être au milieu de cette scène. Très beau n&b également.

Is this again a "shot from the hip" ? If so, a most successful one ! I should learn to do such photos, without them even noticing me - maybe would it be necessary to dye my hair first (or wear a veil) :)))
More seriously : I like very much this kind of photos, such an air of normalcy with interesting persons to observe - the only thing a bit strange is that the BG seems more sharp than the FG - but as I am not a perfectionist, this does not disturb me much, what counts the most for me is the subject and I like this one a lot !
Best regards,
Cath.

Hi Ken,
Wonderful daily life scene. If this is a hip shot than one of the best i've ever seen because all looks perfect...maybe too perfect for a hip shot, so i assume that you were brave enough to point the camera towards them ;-)
Good work Ken, also your b&w toning...
Regards, Henk
p.s.
My blue is how the sensor saw it, for me it was still too dark to see hardly anything.

Hi Ken,
A nice street life scene with many things happening at the same time to keep our eyes busy. Black and white suits the shot and gives it a timeless quality.

Ken,
a daily life scene from the Big Cairo. It seems that the mosque isn't just a place to go and pray, but also to do business. The boy is quite evident trying to get rid of the bread and the person behing the woman selling coffee or is it a pipe?
The B&W conversion is perfect in its tonalities and contrast. Great work!

Hip shot, Dr. Alexander - I presume ?
:-))
It's a good one, Ken.
Hip or no hip involved.
It's just one of those close distance shots that will reveal everything, all of those delightful details - later on. On the screen of your computer.
And, they say: People in sandals won't win any war, but...People in sandals will built the civilisation...
There must be some truth in it...

Hi All,
just i would like to get explanation that why most of tourist going to Egypt cam old and negative views where that Egypt is full of nice views also. i feel like it is not fare to cam only old area, poor people fighting for day life like little kid in the photo who gave a way his school day and education life for the sake of his sick mother or old father who doesn't have work to do. I'm Egyptian living out of Egypt in Qatar - gulf Area - and i have the right to defined my country and my lovely Cairo and my roots city Aswan.
