In 1983 donkeys were still a very common vehicle in Cairo. I guess they still are.
This was scanned from a Kodachrome slide.

Hej Gert,
An unusal situation for people in the western countries. I looks fun but is surely important for the man holding and owning the donky.
Actualy he is the one making the photo great in my opinion!

Absolutely loveable composition. One question pops into my mind. How many men does it take to repair a donkey? :)

I love how you have included the three men in the frame, one guarding the donkey and the others working on it, the run down shutters of the shop and even more run down door which could be the repair-man's home.

I did a workshop with a few minor adjustments. Hope you dont mind

Hi Gert, interesting daily life shot from Cairo. I too considered a tighter crop along the lines of Kamran's but thought the clutter added to the atmosphere, evocative of that cluttered city. cheers, Steve

At this moment I'm watching Euronews Channel and opening your picture... This is so different Cairo. In 2008 (and in 1983) nobody knew a future of Egypt for 5 years. Very well captured street scene.
But donkeys are still vehicle somewhere in the South Europa too. ;)

nice flagrant. this scene remind me when I was a little boy and our trash was transported in carts with mules, the poor animals were part of the public service and I remember once the animal fainted and the workers entered in a shop and took some salty water of olives to give it to go up. poor animals!!! nice scene of the daily life in egypt.

Perfect timing, Gert, and amazing how beautiful that moment apperas on the picture.
Dispite the time past, scanned well and enliven sight collected. Donkeys mostly an obedient animal, wrongly thought as stupid - but they are smarter than horses.
