Photographer's Note
Another shot of Amenhotep III on the right, this time seated with Sobek, the crocodile God, at left. Before the construction of the Aswan Dam upstream, crocodiles were quite common in the Nile River.
"Sobek was also associated with pharaonic power, fertility, and military prowess, but served additionally as a protective deity with apotropaic qualities (good luck charm), invoked particularly for protection against the dangers presented by the Nile." There were 6 cataracts to navigate upstream, some with dangerous exposed rocks and whitewater, and crocodiles were revered and even mummified!

Chris, this museum exhibits splendid statues in good condition only few parts are broken. Sobek, the crocodile God accompanies the pharaon after his death i think. Good close up of these fantastic artworks. Fine colors, good sharpness, rewarding photo note, regards.

Hello Chris,
When posting two photos so close together you may "kill" one of them, or maybe both. I chose this one for the fine light and shadows that help us see the sculpture as a 3D piece. It's a beautiful work of art and also a well taken photo.

Gert

Hello Chris, a very good close up of these two sculptures, I like your point of view.
I hadn't heard or seen anything about a crocodile God before, so this makes a nice introduction for me!
The lighting illuminates all their features.
Kind regards, Jean.

a marvelous sample of sculpture, in two pieces of excellent quality, despite some small damages. I presume the best pieces were stolen to europe. excellent image.

Hello Chris,
Amenhotep III looks handsome, but I wouldn't say the same of Sobek. A fine close-up. 👍🏻👍🏻
Happy 2020,
MT
