Photographer's Note
No, no, not that kind--the hookah is the water pipe the man is smoking. These have had a resurgence of popularity in Egypt (and maybe elsewhere?) in recent years. The most common substance smoked is fruit-flavored tobacco. Here a shopkeeper in one of the back alleys of Cairo (not far from Khan el Khalili market) enjoys a break while awaiting customers for his spices.

wow, he is oblivious of the camera, kind of a stupor, love the way you have captured the image and the environment.

And that man waits... smoking his big pipe. He is waiting for some customers. And he smokes, for the moment... with a lot of patience. That's life. Bravo, Ken: so an intelligent photo! Ciao,
Anna Paola

Same phenomenon in Turkey (since a decade already, I guess), also trendy in new kinds of bars full of young people, also fruit-flavored tobacco, specially with apple.
Nice photo of a day dreaming man, his stall is interesting to watch... I've just spotted another one in your gallery that I even prefer !
Best,
Cath.
