Photographer's Note

The church of St George is probably the most photographed of the 11 rock hewn churches around the town of Lalibela. It was carved downwards from the volcanic tuff rock in about the 13th century.

This was taken from a slight rise to one side of the church in the morning following a Sunday service which the people around the rock had attended.
