Photographer's Note

The Mahdi died in 1885 and was buried in the mausoleum. However in 1898 after the Battle of Omdurman the first mausoleum was pulled down by the British, and the Mahdi's remains were removed as a revenge for the death of General Gordon. So actually the Mahdi is not buried in this place any more.
This reconstruction was built after WWII.

I am not very pleased with this photo. I do not like the skew but I cannot fix it. Today I would rather do it from a longer distance.
