Goodbye Christmas Trees, a photo from Uppland, Svealand

Photographer's Note

It's Epiphany today, also known as the Twelfth Night, and Christmas decorations are being taken down across the UK. In many other countries they are kept for longer, e.g. in Poland some people keep them until 2nd February, which is yet another religious holiday.

I thought I would celebrate the occasion with another photo from my recent trip to Sweden. I captured these cute Christmas trees in Arlanda Airport upon my arrival.

Witaj Kasiu, Zabawne te choinki, prawie bez dekoracji, tylko w czapkach Mikołaja no i z brodami. Wyglądaja skandynawsko :). . U mnie zawsze sie rozbiera choinke 2 lutego, chyba że wcześniej sie sypie. Ale w tym toku nie ma co rozbierać.
jestem czerwona, spalona słońcem, choinki sa czyms bardzo odległym. Pozdrawiam serdecznie

Hello Kasia,
A nice and funny photo. This was a great idea for original Christmas trees, really much nicer than a lot of coloured light bulbs. But I am still waiting for THAT photo from your recent Swedish trip. If you want to be strictly correct about geography, Arlanda is not actually situated in Stockholm but the municipality of Sigtuna (still Uppland).

Hello Kasia,
The first time I see Christmas trees with the red and white Santa hat. The white treetop, which represents snow, resembles a white beard here.
I think in many countries Christmas decorations are taken away the day after Epiphany.

Hello Kasia,

This is such a novel idea, the trees do give the impression of Santa with so little extra decoration.

I was surprised that there is not another person in your photograph, a real confirmation of the situation at the present time.

Good bye 2020 and let's hope that 2021 smiles more kindly on us.

rzeczywiscie w Anglii dekoracje znikaja tuz po swietach ale w zasadzie pojawiaja sie o wiele przed swietami. Dekoruje sie wczesnie i ten okres wyczekiwania swiat jest pelen dekoracji. To bardziej komercyjne podejscie: w sklepach leca melodie bozonarodzeniowe juz miesiac przed.
W Polsce jest podejscie jeszcze bardziej tradycyjne i motywowane religijnie, tzn miesiac przed to Adwent i ja z tata zawsze ubieralem choinke w wigilie a potem dekoracje pozostawaly na Okres Bozego Narodzenia ktory trwa przez nastepne kilka tygodni. Oczywiscie komercyjne podejscie pojawia sie rowniez Polsce.
Ja raczej nie jestem fanem tradycji ale kiedy sie ma male dzieci to tego typu tradycje dodaja koloru szarym zimowym dniom. Dlatego dostosowuje sie do lokalnych obyczajow jak np pumpkin carving itp
Oryginalna dekoracja, te dwie choinki wygladaja na krasnale z siwymi brodami.
Swietnie wypatrzone.
Dziekuje za mile slowa, to napewno sztuka pieknie sie roznic. Nie zawsze jest to latwe. Na portalach spolecznosciowych dosyc czesto slysze np agresywna wypowiedz "czy ktos moze mi wytlumaczyc dlaczego..." Ostatnio pomyslalem ze skoro ktos tak pyta to moze naprawde chce cos zrozumiec i zaczalem wyjasniac. Niestety okazalo sie ze ta oba nie chciala zeby jej cokolwiek wyjasniac... Potem widzialem znowu podobne teksty ale juz przestalem sie odzywac....

Great capture of these two combinations of Christmas trees and Father Christmas. They stand out really well from the glass façade and the warm lights there.

Hello Kasia,
Also in the Netherlands, Epiphany is often the time to put away the Christmas decorations. The garden lighting can often stay a little longer.
Nice but also rather bare X-mas trees at Stockholm airport.
