Desert twilight, a photo from Rajasthan, West

Photographer's Note

I can sometimes strive too hard to look for a shot and nothing goes to plan. Photography is blessed with many such moments and this was one for me. I had been wandering the dunes in Ladera semi desert village at the end of the day trying to find something interesting to shoot. The warm late afternoon desert light illuminated the landscape which added to the calmness and this had a wonderful glow about it which was what all I needed at the moment. It was a beautiful winter cold evening and the peaceful serene setting with the twilight colors made me go for a quick grab when this camel cart suddenly passed right before my eyes.

The magic of photography sometimes is you can look without seeing, but once you do it's gold dust!

Exposed on the foreground to attain some detail to contrast against the whole scene, using Cokin Gradual Neutral Density G1-P120.

I agree with your note. Sometimes photographers need luck but they also have to be ready to catch it. I guess you succeeded on this one. For sure there is the wonderful sunset sky, but without including the camel cart the photo is not the same.

Wonderful sunset on the Thar desert. Thar is desert but not so many dunes. Wonderful silhouette of the camel and his driver. Bikaner is maybe the capital of camels, there so much of them as a mean of transport, not just for tourists.

This shot reminded me of my trip to Mingsha Desert near Dunhuang, Xinjiang though we do not have the luxury of enjoying the sunset there. Indeed timing is important but even more so is your quick response and the ability to recognize an opportunity. Good to see you're back, I have been away for sometimes myself, that how I missed serveral of your fantastic images. I will need to catch up with them. This one grabs me at the thumbnail, and I cann't go anywhere else. the fiery sunset sky, seems to glow arund the camel, The clouds illuminated by the last ray of light makes the whole scene very dramtic with a nostalgic mood as the boy leading the camel to go home. I don't need to mention the quality of the photo, but just want to chime in with the rest of the praise. I totally enjoyed and admire the beauty of your work.
