Budal Church, a photo from Sor-Trondelag, South

Photographer's Note

This little wooden church is serving a parish of less than 600 souls, living in a mountain area in Central Norway. The architecture is special since the layout is a Y-form, which is used in only four other churches in the country.

The building of the church was finished in 1754, it was done by the parish and without any public support financially or otherwise. Later it was a major restoration in 1906, and today the church seats 200 persons.

The church is surrounded by farmland, mainly sheep and goat farmers.

Red like here is another colour for churches but not very common, and it is mostly used for smaller structures like this one.

The workshop image shows details from the surrounding cemetery.

Wow, it is a wonderful little church. The y shape is very unusual for me and I would like to see how it works inside the church. Using the trees you managed a very nice framing for this shot. The PL worked very well on the sky. The WS is very nice too and I found that bench very peaceful. Well done.

That's an interesting little wooden church. Its dark red colour is in harmony with the blue sky and the lush green. Excellent contrasts and sharpness. The cemetery pretty close makes the atmosphere special. The texture of the roof pleases me, the distribution of light is very good and the branches makes a great natural framing. Cheers!

I'm temporarily at home so I can have a look at your latest photos...
Quite an interesting church and surroundings (seen in the ws) as far as I know I only saw similar landscapes in Switzerland: green lawns and forests... but the church is quite peculiar: a doll' church I'd call it! (:-
I like the intense and bright light which you managed quite well. The composition is faily balanced with the branches to the right which add interest to the scene and make it deeper. Curious those beches outside the church in front of the graveyard, it seems that you consider it more like a garden than a cemetery... better so!

Very nice detail of the church, a Y-configuration IS really unique. I like the openness of the graveyard with the trees providing shade and benches where one can sit when visiting a loved ones grave-site. It is the friendliest graveyard I've ever seen. The WS particularly emphasizes this aspect.

Beautiful, an classic image I come to associate with Norway. A charming and qaint little wooden church, not overly decorated like so many bigger in the cities. But so down to earth, and cozy, it make one feels welcome and unintimedating. the light and shadow is perfectly balance here to really give the demension and depth. the tree branch frame the image perfectly for this beautiful composition.

I like this lovely view, simple, natural and effective - even despite the small churchyard with visible graves in the FG - I don't really like to see graves :( But the bright sunny day with a perfectly blue sky makes up for the presence of graves :) and it shows the church and the surroundings in a very nice light!
Very good composition where the church is balanced by the trees.

Red has to be the favourite colours of Norwegians, different shades of it. To understand the Y form better, the only way I guess is a aerial shot! Good framing with the trees and the grave stones on the right. The sky is typically pristine blue. Good work!

This is a nice shot of the quaint church with it's graveyard included. The deep red building is contrasted nicely by the nice blue sky. The lighting and colors are great as is the sharpness and clarity of the shot. The walkway leads the eye into the scene nicely.

Norway is a relative large county but with a small population. This beautiful wooden church really fits into the landscape or better the forests. Great vivid color hues in particular the contrast of the reddish-brown of the church vs. the deep blue sky. Also the sharpness is fine. Well done
