Photographer's Note
Our Dear friend Lisa says I take alot of photo's with large open skies...i didn't really believe her at first...but i guess I was wrong :)
Its hard to capture a unique shot of these Moai on Easter Island, but it sure is fun trying.
The day was very overcast when we first arrived, and it rained briefly, but then the sky cleared, the sun came out and didn't leave for days.
I'll post a WS photo of a colored version, a different POV of the same Moai
Hope you like this one
Enjoy your weekend everyone

Hi Craig
Unusual image of this well-photographed location. The silhouette looks really dramatic against the stormy sky. You made the best use of the weather conditions.
Have a nice weekend

Hello Craig,
B&W and dark skies can definitely increase the dramatic expression of a picture at certain times. I get the impression this was such a case where the original colors were not that attractive and a conversion was more than well justified. It's an impressive piece of rock anyway.
Have a nice weekend (even if you have to work),

Hello Craig,
Black and white sets the mood here and a wonderful one it is. Very well composed with superb sharpness and a fine range of tones.

Ciao Craig
Complimenti
Ciao e buon fine settimana

Hi Craig, Nice lonely moai with the open sky and even more open ocean behind it. Atmospheric photo in black and white. The clouds seem radiate from the head of moai.

Hi Craig,
The black and white conversion creates a brilliant mood to this, and looks as if the surly statue is actually summoning the sun through intense thought. Love the workshop pic too. The grey tones in the clouds are great, giving an impression of a great storm coming. Glad to hear the sun came out instead!
All the best

Hi Craig,
it´s rather rare situation we see B&W photos taken by you.The more I´m glad to see this one.The photographed subject works really well with B&W and your treatment is as always superb.Just love this strong contrast between the Moai Statue and the cloudy sky, which creates here so unique atmosphere and intensifies the mystery feeling of the scene.
In this case the large open sky works definitely in your favor.
Best regards

Hi Craig,
Great atmospheric shot of the Moai statue. Great POV and composition with the horizon placement in the lower third giving the big sky as a backdrop. Very nice work.

Craig
Bonne idée de composition à partir de cette tête imposante. Le choix du noir et blanc est bon mais je trouve qu'il manque un peu de détails dans le noir de la tête?

Hi Craig,
When you have a sky like this, it's all good! As much as I enjoy color, it's neat to see this in black & white. I'm always love a good silhouette, so this is right in my wheelhouse...and I love that there's just enough light to make out some of the form and definition of this statuesque (literally) attraction. I think the monochrome scheme works to your advantage here to make that presence even more prominent, but not overpowering.
The sky really adds a dramatic sensation to the scenery, plus you get that "artsy" appeal. :) Another cool shot of these Moai. Have a great time this next week, don't gamble it all away! :) Take it easy.
Friendly regards,
Jason

Hi Craig
The overcast sky is a bonus for this portrait of the statue, well framed with a wide angle.

Hello Craig,
I only arrived back last night and have been enjoying catching up with all the shots that I have missed. I love this! It is the sort of shot I had been hoping for from Easter Island. It focusses on the dramatic, stone face, giving it a real sense of character, high and important, owning and yet belonging to the world!
Love it!
Have a good Sunday,
Bev :-)

Both pictures the B&W and the color version show a magnificent ancient and unique art, Craig.
Not so easy to avoid large parts on picture allocated to the sky, and if it is possible i do crop some images with it.
Altogether, a documentary well posted.
Enjoy a nice sunday,
Ike

Hi Craig.
Sensational image with this moair, as the protagonist of the picture, which is basically a very cloudy sky, but splendid in those shades of gray.
I like the image of WS, which gives a great feeling of grandeur and a splendid textures.
Very good the management of brightness and optimum sharpness, the near absence of color contributes to the success of the image.
Have a good evening.
Best wishes.
Luis.

Bonjour, Craig,
Ces statues dirigées vers la mer restent encore un mystère.
Cela doit être impressionnant de voir ces blocs de pierre ainsi érigées.
Le noir et blanc est parfait pour restituer l'ambiance générale.
Superbe !

Hello Craig
At first I wondered about why the B&W version...then the WS made me understand!
Your wide lens does throw delightful views...your POV up close to the giant statue only enhances the size...and yes, I agree with having lots of sky in the picture...makes it very moody. Dunno if I am imagining too much, but it seems the cloudy weather seems to make the Moai sulk (if one reads into the face too much) ;-)
Fine work!
Cheers!
Angshu
