Red Tram and Red Tower
This will probably be my last photo from last year’s summer holidays. It shows a streetscape from the city of Halle (Saale) with a view down the street Kleinschmieden, which leads to the central market square. I think it is clear where to find a red tram in this picture, but a red tower is harder to find. In fact, it is just the name of the tower in the middle (Roter Turm). A local tried to explain us where the name came from, but he spoke German too rapidly for me to understand it all and I can’t really remember what the story behind it was. Anyway, the tower was built as the campanile of the Market Church, which I showed earlier. It was built in the 15th century.

Hej Lars,
Gert

Hello Lars,
Even if you can't remember the story of the red tower, this is a very well composed photograph. The road is used extremely well to guide us into the scene, where the buildings fill the frame with interest.
It is fun to search for the gaps between them, to decide whether to travel to the left or the right!
The red tram is an attractive feature and is nicely balanced with the red car, the road curving between them.
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Hello Lars, the gentle curve of the street leads us towards the impressive tower, it’s spires are very elegant.
The cables seem to create a triangle around the upper part of the tower.
There is a red car too which balances the composition with the bright red bus.
Excellent sharpness as ever.
Kind regards, Jean.

Hi Lars,
The red tram is eye-catching. The point of view is showing the details of the buildings and of the tower. The light is enhancing the colors. Have a nice day.

Hallo Lars
This town has a very distinctive east European look and feel, or should I say Romania has a very Saxon look? good sharpness and framing. The tall spite of the clocktower anchors the shot. Tfs!

Goedenavond Lars,
Opnieuw heel mooi foto werk, bedankt.
Groeten uit Vlaanderen.

Hi Lars,
so very interesting for me because I always feel a sentiment to Germany, having lived there so many years.
Yet I never managed to visit this lovely city.
Quite a unique tower, in general a very photogenic spot which you have perfectly captured,

Dag Lars I went back to your Marktkirche upload but could not find a view of this tower. Nevertheless I consider it doesn't 'starve for air', standing so ostensibly where the streets meet to show its towering vintage architcture!
Many thanks, Mr Globetraveler, for this interesting free voyage
to Saale!

Hi dear Lars, How are you?
You seem to be so active as usual.
Your work also remains unchanged as high level as before.
Very tight cropping makes so stable composition.
Red bus plays important role in this composition.
All the best and have a good day! Takero from Tokyo

Good morning Lars,
Well placed the old tower through the street and buildings.
The red tram gave excellent contrast and a sense of motion to the whole.
Have a nice new day,
Ike

a well chosen PoV using the tram lines from the corner. The red-tram really catches the eye and leads us through very nicely to the detailed tower.

Hi Lars
its always great to see these citystreet scenes, lots of activity and hustle going on. and every scene can be a little different. such old grande architecture here, I get the sense it has looked this way for a long long time. It looks like someone got ran over by the tram while riding their bike into it hahaha...cheers

Hello Lars,
I like the different elements in this scene; the clock tower is beautiful, and I like how the curving tram tracks lead our eyes to it. You not only captured a red tram, but you got a red car, too. :-) I hope all is well with your dad. He hasn't been on TE lately. Take care!

Hallo Lars,
Vele groeten, Paul

Hi Lars.
A magnificent composition with the perspective of the street where the high Gothic tower with a complicated roof stands out, the tram with its red color is a point of attention.
Excellent POV, with very good lighting, color and sharpness to enjoy the details.
Very good work. I like
Enjoy a happy Sunday.
Very best regards.
Luis.

Hello Lars,
Nice view of the tower. I looked it up and here are the three theories why it is called the Red Tower:
1) The copper roof originally shone in red before it turned green,
2) There were blood courts (People's courts with arbitrary executions) held around it,
3) One of its architects was Johannes Rode, thus the term "Rode-Thurm" (sounding like Roter Turm).
Take your pick, I vote for #2.
Regards,
MT
