Photographer's Note
This is from the roll of Tri-X, also push-processed to 800 ASA. Unlike most of the other old shots I have posted here, this isn't a ScanCafe scan, but was an 8x10 print, scanned on a flatbed office scanner.
What I like about this shot is that you can see Bob's left index finger sliding from the seventh fret to the eighth during this solo.

Hey, Russ,
excellent!! Love the B&W, good emotion on the face, great light and even with the grain, you still got nice detail. That guy did some really great stuff. How fortunate to be able to have recorded it to film. Many thanks and kind wishes,
Shelly

Hi Russ
Riding on the sound and whole lotta love!
Fantastic image, a very difficult low light subject here i know excatly how difficult concert photography can be but you managed well highlighting the face's expression which is totally in the zone. this indeed makes the viewer feel the essence of witnessing a live concert and those chords. You have done a great job to capture the energy and atmosphere of this very special occasion so full of joy, 'feeling' and very heartening too. Love the passion you have captured. My hat off, Congrats
Best regards

Cool shot, Russ ~
I like the cut and framing of this, as well as those furrowed lines on Marley's brow.
The grainy b&w evokes the feeling of a memory, or a dream. And that is, after all, what we are left with, isn't it...
All best,
Kristin

Hi Russ,
I know I've used the word iconic before in your recent series of world famous musicians, but its called for again. This to me could easily be a famous shot for sale in any music shop, or the cover of an album. Who could not be anything but joyed to have this in their own collection, wonderful image, and full of spirit. bravo!
All the best
Noel

Wow Russ!
I should send this one to my son (he is really a fan of Marley).
I absolutely love this grainy Tri-X look. You really have a classic here.

Hi Russ, wow just the fact that you have a shot of the Bob is super impressive... Furthermore the spirit of the moment is well captured in obviously near impossible lighting conditions!

Hi Russ,
Not even my genre of music preference, but my word would I have loved to see him play! One of the true legends in the industry, you can't help but appreciate the talent! What a fantastic couple of shots you've posted, you were one lucky guy to have been that close to capture these images. You mention his finger placement on the strings....but all I see is him giving us THE finger! :)
I honestly don't think these shots would have nearly the same impact without the noise. I feel it's an absolute association to the era in which he/we lived and played, conveying the time period with distinction in camera & film quality. Please pardon my descriptive repetition here, but there's also that raw and gritty nature about it that I enjoy so much...almost and "in your face" kind appeal with these ones. Play it loud and proud Bob! Thanks for sharing these, it's been a treat to see!
Friendly regards,
Jason

Hello Russ,
I like to photograph musicians and emotions on stage. I'm interested in more jazz, but all music is good:)
Emotions, sounds of it you can see in this picture. Very good.
Congratulations.

Hello Russ
I wish more people on this site would post "archive" work: especially film photographs. This is a belter. Grainy as hell, not very sharp, scanned on a flatbed; who cares? In fact those "problems" add immeasurably to the atmosphere of this iconic rock-pic. You managed to get in pretty close. Can I have your autograph??
Regards
Will

Sorry for being late Russ. I thought you wrote french so don't bother anymore with automatic traductions!
This portrait of a reggae music deity is quite spirited given the scenic intense posture that suggests he was singing his heart out!
The black depiction and coarse grain are quite appropriate for a memorial"
Cheers.

Hi Russ,
A beautiful historical document from a musician and songwriter of such quality. The grain is there, the old film, and this, for me beats many 'professional' images, as it has the urgency of the moment, rather than something we see in a magazine...nice..I & I lively up yourself!!
Cheers
Justin
