Photographer's Note
Just back from a wonderfull two weeks in Montreal spent with André.
Plenty of cold and snow. But I really enjoyed the snow blanketing the city as we never get snow here where I live.
Montreal occupies a 50km long island at the confluence of the St-Laurent and Ottawa rivers.
A very belated Happy New Year to everyone!

Hi Wanda,
An almost monochromatic image, if only the residual paint and rusted clip wouldn't sell the punch.
As you were able to notice, dozens of bikes are abandoned or left on the sidewalks during winter season, some in better conditions than other, so I guess it's a typical scene of Montreal. Only through your eyes though was I able to realized that this isn't something I have seen in other parts of my country or anywhere else actually.
So that was one of the cool aspect to walk around Mtl with you, rediscovering my own city. On that particular snowy day, it was also enjoyable to see your candid reactions and shooting around with a renewed interest.
Graphic and abstract shot, that despite the simple appearance of the subject, reveals something typical and singular about my city.
I also think that this photo is a nice intro for your next challenge, learning to drive one of these bikes once you'll live here next summer. Mtl is a cyclist city and you'll have to adopt this transportation mode to feel a true montrealer! And of course, to eat a poutine, a bagel, a beaver tail and a smoked meat at least once a month... :-P)
André

Hi Wanda,
There is allwasy something to be photographed around us, only if we can see (not only look at) !
You have creadted here a perfect graphism with this detail of a bike snown in. Also the red color rests helps to increase the effect.
TFS and have a nice weekend

Dear Wanda
I read that you had a great time in big Andre's city...this is a very interesting shot, very graphical and quite an unique way to show us two things, the bicycle and the snow. It was interesting reading Andre's crtq as well, as I learnt about Montreal from that as well
Wish you the very best for the New Year, the best of everything, health, love, joy and prosperity
Best Regards
Angshu

Hello Wanda! This will be YOUR year ... I just read André's note :))) All the best to you too, happy new year. I have one week of Montreal behind me and it was winter too (and some more days in summer on our way to Vermont). A school friend lived there for many years and now returned with her family. My school friend and her husband, they both teach at McGill University. I had a fantastic time in Montreal, trying out my Swiss French (I never use French much ... what a shame!). Now with her two boys it is a little bit more difficult to meet on a regular basis but we exchange our xmas letters to keep in touch which is nice. And, before I forget, love your picture, very nice idea, it shows both, a true winter and people trying to make a difference taking the velo whenever it is possible. All the best, Barbara.

Dag Wanda,
What a surprise to see you posting such a snowy upload.
Great compositional work to create a very playful and original picture.
I also like the patches of saturated red paint.
Gelukkig 2010 & stay warm!!

Très belle composition avec cette roue de vélo dans la neige. Cela ressemble presque à un dessin abstrait. Bravo. Cordialement. Marine
Very beautiful composition with this wheel of bike in the snow. It looks like almost an abstract drawing. Bravo. Cordially. Marine

Hi Wanda,
Nice capture, simple but really interesting. I like especially remains of red paint, enlivening the picture and creating original texture...
Wanda if you like snow so much I would like to exchange the place of living with you ;o) Poland is covered with thick mantle of snow and I hate the snow and low temperatures.
Best regards,
Andrzej

Hello Wanda
My best wishes for this new year and all these new projects !
You offer here a great abstract shot.
The thumbnail is really eyecatching thanks to the strong graphism and this striking red splash.
You've got an artistic eye to see such a result in a detail of the wheel.
Creative and unusual work, compliments.

Hi Wanda
a nice detail isolated from the overall present snow and framed in a graphical way not forgetting the canon touch ;-) I read between the lines major changes are coming your way, wish you all the best to master them and don't worry if you think your french is not up to the level, what they speak there is not french... my wife is a fan of a quebecois TV series, and without subtitles no chance to understand a word !
Kind Regards JY

Hello Wanda,
It took me a few seconds to realize what this was. A fine composition, almost abstract, with an interesting pattern of lines and a few attractive spots of remaining red paint.
Well observed.

Hello Wanda,
This photo is exactly my today life. No car, and many snow during the night. I can only go to job with the bike. It was quite fun today :-)
It is why this photo really tell something to me.
In this way, the close frame is a good choise.

Hi WAnda
Bikes and snow goes hand in hand in Montreal, and elsewhere in others CAnadian city.Do not take André's word on that.
I must say that you are giving a fresh look to this old topic. The snow has a cloudy look.
Are you still in Québec?
Snow storms have a way of raising one's mood and spirit.
Hope you had a good stay.

Hello Wanda -
As an avid cyclist I find this image very compelling in its minimalist presentation. What caught my attention, of course, is the specks of red in the dark and white image. Well done as the snow is white with texture and the remaining elements are spot on as well. Good eye and great presentation!
Thank you for sharing.
