A view of Oia, a photo from Kyklades, South Aegean

Photographer's Note

Oia is a typical and characteristic Cycladic village houses, where one breathes a magical and tranquil atmosphere. In the upper part of the town considerably damaged by an earthquake in 1956, are the remains of a Venetian fortress, with a good view over the town and the boiler. The restoration work and tourism category have become one of the most charming of the Cyclades.

The view of the population, which seems to ride along the top of the cliff, always dominating perspective on the caldera, while many of its buildings, also appear to be cascading through the rugged slopes, is a unique and wonderful with the immaculate white of their homes, although some in beautiful pastel colors, which break the monotony of monochrome and always sprinkled around plants and flowers.

In this picture you see a whole cluster of houses which rise up the slope in a complicated zigzag of stairs and walkways, the color contrast between the dominant white houses with pretty pastel colors others, creates some beautiful shades of color.

Oía es un típico y característico pueblo de casas cicládicas, donde se respira un mágico y tranquilo ambiente. En la parte alta de la localidad notablemente dañada por un terremoto en 1956, se hallan los restos de una fortaleza veneciana, con un buen mirador sobre el pueblo y la caldera. Las obras de restauración y un turismo de categoría la han transformado en una de las poblaciones más encantadoras de las Cícladas.

La vista de la población, que parece cabalgar a lo largo de lo más alto del acantilado, dominando siempre la perspectiva sobre la caldera, mientras muchos de sus edificios, parecen también ir cayendo en cascada por las agrestes pendientes, es una vista única y maravillosa, con el blanco inmaculado de sus casas, aunque hay algunas en preciosos tonos pastel ,que rompen la monotonía monocromática y siempre todo salpicado por plantas y flores.

En esa imagen se ve todo un conglomerado de casas que van ascendiendo por la pendiente en un complicado zigzag de escaleras y senderos, el contraste de color entre el blanco dominante de las casas con otras en bonitos tonos pasteles, crea unos bellos matices de color.

ésta es la imagen que uno espera ver de Santorini, por ser la más clásica y conocida.
Es una maravilla de vista sobre Oia, con este impresionante caos arquitectónico de las casas que parecen amontonarse unas sobre otras, con las pinceladas de colores de algunas cúpulas y fachadas, así como de las ventanas y las puertas. La luminosidad mediterránea es un factor muy importante en el éxito de esta composición.
Todo forma un conjunto gráfico muy poderoso gráficamente, que has sabido captar mediante un encuadre eficaz, y con un elegante marco que añade más calidad, si cabe, a tu trabajo.

Splendid presentation of the typical Cycladic architecture. Wonderful with the white facades and roofs and with the blue domes in between. The picture gives us a good idea of the network of narrow streets that are like a labyrinth.

What so eyecatching is the typical shapes and almost identical white dwelling filling the slope and so neatly compact. But I find it's attractive with eyecatching mixtures of pastel colors and the blue domes are for sure real eye pullers here breaking the monotony. Interesting how they have managed to retain the traditional architecture although some look new. Excellent rich color, sharpness and general contrast. Great shot and TFS, Congrats

no matter how many times we see these greek photos, we want to see more.
its just so un-natural looking from todays style of architecture that we must take a look and be in awe of it.
the longer i view the scene, the more smaller details i find....such as sun shades, chairs, benches, red flowers, mailboxes - or items that look like mailboxes, and i can count 5 blue domes :)

amazing panoramic view of the famous village. I have yet to visit this magical place. This feels like an illustration to a fairy tale, everything is so surreal. The two domes are amazing and a bit further we see even more of them.
Occasional pink houses are possible to spot as well.
