Back from Arakan, a photo from Rakhine, South

Photographer's Note

Just back from a fantastic trip to Rakhine state, Myanmar. I was dreaming of going there since a few years, when I found a book at Bangkok airport entitled "Burma's Lost Kingdoms - Splendours of Arakan". Beautiful pictures on TrekEarth from leo61, everlasting, AmiBe, ardes, devimeuxbe, Mistral and others nourished my dreams since then.

Reality was even beyond my dreams... I start with a picture taken within a small hamlet in the middle of the ruins in Mrauk-U. Wonderful people still living in the past, very far from our noisy and stressful cities.

Burmese women apply Thanaka paste on their face to protect from the sun as well as making them even more beautiful :)

I am also back to TE after a long break. Too much work during that period. Not enough time to travel, to take pictures or even to write comments :)

Et bon retour parmi nous. Effectivement cela faisait longtemps !!! Content de te revoir avec ce magnifique portrait de ette femme. Je ne sais pas à quoi elle rêve, mais cela à l'air d'être agréable d'après son regard. La perruche est un joli et coloré complément. Beau coup d'oeil. Je m'attends à de la belle photo dans les prochains jours... merci Vincent.

It has been such a long time! and I am glad to see you back ;o)
You begin here again with a fabulous double potrait. Beautiful the way she has her head tilted and the light shines on her bringing out the makeup and her features. Love green the bird on her shoulder too, and the way they fill the frame together.
I see you have a new camera too ;o)

Welcome back Vincent. Hope you have more time now. So you went back to Burma recently. I was there again in October 08 and only stayed one hour in Sitwee airport, on my way to and from the offshore drilling rig. Even in Yangon I did not have time for tourism. May be next time.
The double portrait is beautiful. The lady with their local cosmetics and the parrot with a fur of nice feathers look fantastic. I really like her peaceful expression. Well done.

Yoe were absent on TE such a long time! Nice to see that the friends are coming back here.. fantastic potrait here. beautiful woman - I wonder how old she could be, it is so difficult to say in case of Asian women. I like her quite exotic look, with some melancholy, and this parrot on the shoulder - splendid.

je suis si contente de ton retour!Je vois que tu es allé au Myanmar,j'étais presque décidée à y aller moi aussi,et j'ai changé d'avis pour partir dans 6 semaines en Inde,aux sources du Gange!C'est donc avec un double intérêt que je vais regarder tes photos!Tu démarres très fort avec un portrait de toute beauté!La postion du visage de la femme,son expression,les couleurs,la lumière,tout est magnifique et me plaît énormément!C'est superbe!

I imagine the paint on their faces is for more than just decoration. Anyway this is an interesting composition. The little parrot make this image even more attractive with its touch of green. On dit ici qui qui vive finis para apparaitre. C'est bon de te "revoir", avec ce double portrait si beau.

Tu as trouvé deux modèles exceptionnelles, les deux avec des couleurs très attirantes (au cas de la fille je pense à les levres, qui rend un bon contraste avec le verte de l'oiseau). J'aime bien l'expression et le regard de la fille et la lumière très bien saisi.

En voilà une bonne nouvelle que ton retour avec, en plus, plein de belles photos de Birmanie (j'ai du mal à me faire au nouveau nom!). Tu as l'air très enthousiaste sur ce voyage et tu démarres très fort avec ce magnifique portrait de cette femme plongée dans ses pensées. L'attitude est très belle , le soleil suggéré sur l'arrière plan et sur la lumière très douce qui éclaire un petit morceau du visage. La présence de l'oiseau intrigue autant que le regard de sa propriétaire.
Je sens qu'on va se régaler!

Excellent tight framing and a very nice composition with this bird.I like too her pose,expression and the nice Thanaka.
I hope you enjoyed your travel there,and I heard the tourism industry is nearly down.
I heard of many people who wanted to go there with oranized tours,but they have been cancelled because of too less interest....

Glad to have you back Vincent, but even more pleased to hear that you enjoyed your time in Mrauk U, but then again who wouldnt.
I like your tight framing and her serene glance, the parrot seems to have moved a little but it doesnt matter. Looking forward to see more.

Welcome back, it's been such a long time. and Welcome back from your trip as well, I'm thrill to see that you were in Burma, one of the very beautiful country and culturally most fasninating and the people have gone through so much there. My favorite country in Asia, I like it even more than Laos, my homeland. I was here about 7 years ago. most of my photos are in films. Ce portrait est très bon, gentil avec la femme, les couleurs sont belles, bien naturelles, la texture de la peau et du "thanaka" très réussi. Très beau portrait de cette femme à l'air mélancolique, on a l'impression qu'elle a de la peine. Et le perroquet vert sur son épaule a l'air songeur, compatis-t-il à sa peine lui aussi? This is so beautiful, her head leaning a bit towards the parrot.
Both the animal's and the woman's eyes have the same tense! A great moment to capture.

Le portrait est magnifique! La qualité de l'image est vraiment impec! Je veux dire:balance des couleurs, exposition, focus, sharpening, framing.

C'était comment de voyager au Myanmar? Pas de problème politique? sécurité?Tu faisais parti d'un circuit touristique ou tu étais seul avec toi-même? Comment fonctionnent les transports là-bas? Excuse-moi pour l'inondation de questions, je suis vraiment curieux. Une seul réponse à toutes ces questions et je serai heureux!!

Superbe portrait, je dirais presque double portrait. J'aime la tête penchée de la femme, la lumière sur le visage et la magnifique qualité d'image. je crois que l'on n'a pas fini de se régaler avec les nombreuses photos que tu as ramenées.

J'allais dire en voyant ta galerie que tu suivais les traces de Leo61 en Birmanie et en Cappadoce... mais je découvres dans ta note que ce n'est pas un hasard.
Entre le perroquet et la femme il fallait choisir... Son visage, je parle de la femme, est parfaitement cadré et baigné d'une lumière très douce.

Ca faisait un moment!! Mrauk U est sur ma liste depuis un certain temps aussi...! Ce sont les avions Birmans qui ne m inspirent pas trop!
Sinon ca m a l'air d être une mine de photos! Super ce portrait au perroquet... bien isolée du fond, elle a une expression marrante.
Ca me donne envie de sauter dans l avion, je ne suis qu a 2 heure de vol de Yangon... ;D
