Castelluccio La Fioritura, a photo from Perugia, Umbria

Photographer's Note

Between the end of May and the first days of July, the plateau of Castelluccio is witness of an event of particular importance, the Closing. For various weeks the monochromatic view of the pasture, it comes broken from a mosaic of colors, with variations of tones that go from the ocher yellow to the red one. Even if "the Bloomed" festivity of falls back in second Sunday of June, does not exist a precise day in order to admire this charming show. Every year all is entrusted the climatic course of the season. In this period there are a lot of species of flowers in the Large Plane and the Lost Plane, walking along the paths can meet: genzianelle, narcissuses, violette, poppies, ranuncoli, asphodels, viola Eugeniae, alfalfas, acetoselle and other.
Place to 1452 meters on the sea level Castelluccio is the highest inhabited place of the Umbria. Place on the top of a hill that separates the Great Plan from tight the Lost Plan is a delicious small village with narrow lanes and the houses leaned the one to the others, nearly to repair itself from the great cold of winter. The Plan is famous beyond that for its splendid closing, also for the cultivation of the lenticchia, plant annual that blooms between May and August, pertaining to the family of the leguminose.

What a beautiful view over the fields and such a wonderful variety of soft and appealing colours, from blue to red and green, here. The contrast between the blue flowers in the foreground and the poppies is particularly nice.

in this composition there seem to be even more color than before.
It looks like an endless carpet of flowers. Nice composition with some flowers in the foreground being sharp and other in the distance being melted into the carpet pattern.
