Photographer's Note
The Lion Gate is the main gate of the Mycenaean citadel from the Bronze Age. It is dated to the second millennium BC (around 1250 BC). It is the only surviving example of a monumental Mycenaean sculpture, a triangular limestone slab decorated with a bas-relief that depicts a pair of animals, they are generally considered to be lions, hence the name of the gate, but heads have not survived, they can also be griffins or sphinxes.

Bonjour, cher Ryszard,
Je reste confondu devant cette porte monumentale qui traverse les siècles avec aisance et bonheur (il faut dire que les matériaux utilisés sont de qualité) !
Appareillage à joints vifs par endroits.
Superbe !
Amitiés.

Hello Ryszard,
It's a nice photo of an amazing place. It's one of those ancient monuments that make me wonder how on earth they could construct this so long ago. What tools did they have?
Kind regards,
Gert

Hello Ryszard,
It isn't easy to make ancient sites attractive as viewers photographs but you have managed to make this very interesting!
The strong details of the wall and gate, with a welcoming figure awaiting us, grabs our attention.
The open doorway, moving from the shade into the sunlight, is another strong incentive!
I really do wish I was there to enjoy the tour!
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Hello Ryszard,
I like the contrasts in light and tone between and foreground. You have managed them well. The lady stood by the gate gives the composition scale. Very good rendering of the textural details.

Hello, Ryszard!
Beautiful view of this impressive gate, and the light has been perfectly managed to show that, with beautiful details on the more illuminated part of the image! Very nice job!

Hello Ryszard,
I can still remember a black and white photo of this Lion-gate in a textbook about the history of architecture during my study time.
This colourful version is much more attractive and I remember that there was no nice lady next to the gate.
Excellent work
Have a good weekend, groet Rob

Hi Ryszard,
I wonder what became of the 2 lion heads? Maybe one day they will be discovered buried in a remote cave or hidden in an attic, unable to be sold on the black market? Good sharpness, and once again this place reminds me of Hattusa and the Hittite city gates. Tfs!

Hello Ryszard,
This is it, the famous Lion Gate of Mycene of which we learned in history lessons.
The stacking of the huge stone blocks must have been a horrible job.
Very good light management, excellent sharpness.
Best regards, Paul

Hi Ryszard
2 points for the subject content. I'm not a fan of the lady being directly in your frame, but hey, it can't be perfect right haha. Unless of course its a loved one hahahaha :) then of course its ok :) But what i'm really interested in are the Lions up top. at first glance I thought they were two hands together in a praying motion, but I was wrong. Reading your note, they are incredibly old, absolutely amazing! great shot. cheers
Craig
