Oculus mirage, a photo from New York, Northeast

Photographer's Note

The World Trade Center site in downtown Manhattan is a collection of office buildings, the Oculus transportation hub, and the September 11th memorial and museum. Having visited the old WTC many times, it has a different feeling to it, part solemn remembrance and part architectural wonder. The old site had seven buildings, two of them being the famous Twin Towers, and there was also a hotel on-site. The new WTC will have five buildings, (four have been completed so far), and the new features mentioned above.

I was standing in between Three World Trade Center and the Oculus. When I looked to the left, I found this reflection. You can see some of the Oculus as two women walk by. In the WS photo you can see my view as I looked to the right. :-)

Hello Brenda,
I love the colors of the left section and the distorted reflections further to the right. The second section with the two women and the tiny tree against a yellow background is like a picture on its own. All these views are combined into a delightful composition of diagonal and vertical lines and a fascinating light. In the WS I especially like the art seen in the background.

Oh i get the feeling TE members will really like this one.
as do I. For those of us who have seen the Oculus in person, its easily recognisable in the reflection. good to have the people walking by to give life to it, and overall its just one of those photos that was a good find and unexpected. Reflections are everywhere, but only photographers seem to notice them :) good eye

It was such a quiet moment! The reflections of the Oculus are wonderful with just the right amount of distortion and a nice warm hue from the inside. The two women are a good inclusion. I love the photo in the WS, too. The light underneath the wing of the Oculus is simply fantastic!

Hello Brenda,

It is just amazing how many very different, yet wonderful photographs can be taken at this site!
The reflections are a most attractive pattern of lines, some straight, some bent, but with two figures amongst the patterns, giving a whole new feel!
I love the w/s, too. The building appears to have wings!
From the sadness of the Twin Towers, this beauty has arisen, almost like a phoenix!

We did visit the memorial part of the site a few years ago but much of the area was still a building site. A good photo here with the people being almost silhouettes and lonely in the midst of the modern architecture.

That's quite an eye teaser with the distant view and the close-up side by side plus an attractive jumble of reflected buildings. I rather like the balance of colours with pastel shades contrast with the stronger more steely tones of the glass panels. Presence of the figs strengthened the compo tenfold with great appeal, extremely well thought out urban shot.....

Two beautiful photos of this multi-photogenic environment. You can spend hours here making new pictures every time. Every corner gives new possibilities.
The main photo is surprising and confusing. At first glance it looks like you are looking outside from the inside, but that is not corresponding with this outside façade.
Beautifully observed.

Hello Brenda, this building is the perfect venue for photographers!
There are obviously so many angles that it can be taken from, and all providing such excellent pictures.
Great shot with all the lines, vertical and horizontal, plus the distortion of the reflections.
Lucky for you, having two people walking past.

I like both pictures of this architectural wonder very much but the photo in the WS I find really amazing! Perhaps the light was not at its best but the composition and what we see is truly fantastic.
I have the impression one can take hundreds of great pictures there.

a clever composition here, I admire the good graphical play of the reflections on the glass front, wher we can see some architectural elements of the Calatrava's Oculus, and the good geometrical effect of it in the ensemble.
The girls walking acroos this site add a nice vital bonus.

A very unique modern design enable this reflection which you found, Brenda.
The Ws photo worth a post as main picture in my humble opinion.
