Connemara Musician, a photo from Galway, North

Photographer's Note

While driving through the West of Ireland Connemara country. I stumbled upon a music and regatta festival in the coastal village of Roundstone. There was much traditional Celtic music with fiddles, flutes, accordions, etc. In the photo is one of the musicians from that Sunday day in July.

Very interesting, indeed. I've been to Ireland and talked and sang with people in pubs, it was fantastic. Irish folk music is marvellous, I love it. All the celtic influence. I can feel that same spirit in the picture, congratulations.

Hi Rob.
A terrific portrait shot of a real character. The low-down viewpoint is a great feature of this one. Your shot is a great close crop and the colour and light are excellent. Perhaps the depth of field could be a little better, to bring the top of his hat and back of his hair more into focus. At 200mm you could have probably decreased the aperture size considerably and still hand-held at a slower speed for this stationary subject, maintaining the blurriness of the background. Still, that's a minor point, as his face, beard and clothing and harmonica are all nice and sharp. I can recall the delight of seeing Irish musicians performing from a trip I made many years ago.
