Photographer's Note
After more than 20 years of war, many buildings in Kabul are riddled with bullet holes. Some buildings are being patched up, but for most people finding the money to fill the holes and repaint their buildings is not high on their list of priorities – they have much more urgent needs to improve basic infrastructure and services. I suppose that means these bullet holes will remain for many years as a visible reminder of the fighting that occurred in and around Kabul for most of the 80s and 90s.

Nice picture, David. The colour is haunting, so soft and sweet. You have caught a scene full of interest and local colour and it is a greate recond. Not a place that I would care to go. You must be very brave.

A fine documentary shot, I like the coloring, slight perspective and most that contrast movement blur of the man on his bicycle, a nice atmospheric light in the street wita good composed tower, witnessing what has happend here.

The bullet holes not only will remain.
I'm afraid they'll multiply, flourish, growing
beautifully in such favorable environment.
Sarcasm? Yes. Well founded one.. War is such a favorite way of living in certain spots on Earth.
But that's a theme for another discussion.
It's good to have you David, around.

Hi David,
This frightening reality popped up in random and I couldn't turn away. I often think how fortunate I was for the accident of my birthplace and wonder about what part I can play in making the world better for others who haven't had my great good fortune. From your notes, it sounds like the area is peaceful now?
Regards, Pat
