golden smile, a photo from Dhaka, North

Photographer's Note

i made this picture about 6 years ago in a small town near Dhaka (Bangladesh) . I know, the feet of the child is not on the picture, so the picture is not so good, but i do like the smile of the baby. Last year i was in Dhaka again, and i tried to find the same child again... I took the picture with me, went to the same place, and i found the brother of the baby, not a baby any more now but a kid. The brother directly recognised the baby on the picture, but his little brother went out of the town with his parents...
(it reminds me a little on the story of the national geographic woman in Afghanistan, only, this picture is not so good :)

I like the story behind your picture, Kris. I would probably crop it at the top and maybe try to lighten it up a bit. Still, you deserve a big smiley for catching such a wonderful smile (if you'll excuse a ban pun)!

Excellent note Kris. And yes, it reminds me too of the "Afghan woman" ;) During an exhibition in Stockholm about the 100 best photo's from the National Geographic I also have seen a documentary about that photographer trying to find his subject back. Very interesting and engaging material, just like your picture actually. I like it a lot, there lays so much power in this child's smile, a beautiful capture Kris! Regarding your research to meet that child again, I wish I could reward you with more than a smiley...

Kris, this picture is nice and good IMO even without the foot... DOF is good, even if a little more sharpness would have been nice. but it works fine for me here...did you use a flash? it looks a bit strong on his face??? nice capture anyway;-) out of points today

Very interesting note. The smile is beautifuly innocent. A slight lack of sharpness, but child's eyes and expression are wonderful.

This photo IS very good. I don't think that it is possible that someone can make this baby smile again. As i see on the photo, little baby looks very happy and you well captured this. Congratulations. Best Regards.
