Boat of fortune, a photo from Siem Reab, West

Photographer's Note

In the south of Siem Reab, on the lake Tonle Sap, Chong Kneas, is a floating village.
The village deplace with the gre of the seasons and adapts to the whims of Mekong which makes pass the maximum depth of 2 meters has more than 10 meters during the rain season.
It is attractive to see how the life organizes in this water area. All displacements are done of course in boats, and the children not no difficulty has moved in boats of fortune such as cases out of polystyrene, basins plastic, or metal, like this small girl here on this photo.

This great picture made me think of one of my friend Thien right away.
Boats of fortune indeed... And courageous little girls!
I like very much yours too, especially the point of view and the well achieved tight framing.

Bonjour Pascal,
Décidément le mot fortune est bien ambivalent!
Il convient en tout cas parfaitement à cette scène très bien cadrée. Les tonalités bleu/brun sont magnifiques.
Peut-être un petit regret... je trouve le contraste un peu dur pour le visage.

C'est certainement une photo assez facile à faire, quand on se ballade dans ces coins là, mais pour moi qui ne connait pas l'endroit, c'est presque le début d'un voyage.

Hi Pascal,
Very nice composition a lonely child in the "middle" of the Tonle sap lake. Though I would reconsider the cropping, there is something that could be worked on here. I think I would try to keep the main object a bit more off-centre, trying to get the paddle more across the frame... that could improve the dynamism of it.
I can imagine that this was a one shot situation, you on the boat, the girl in her "shell"
Even though I like your composition and a short story about the Tonle Sap lake.
As a matter of fact it was the Mekong river and the "miracle" that happens in June that made the Angkor Empire come alive. One of the hypothesis of it's sudden disappearance in 1431 a.d. basis on a huge flood causing irrigation problems a year before.

Une belle image traditionnelle du Cambodge.
La bassine y est le moyen de navigation le plus employé par les enfants sur l'eau. j'ai ajouté tom image sur le thème que j'ai ouvert : Navigation enfantine.

Pour que l'on ne te reproche pas d'avoir mis cette embarcation en plein milieu, ou plutot pour que l'on te le reproche moins...j'ai pensé au format carré que j'affectionne particulièrement...qu'en penses tu ? sur le WS je ne me suis occupé que du recadrage, à toi de voir...

Salut Pascal..
Cette photo.. quelle belle instant, quel beau témoignage..
Elle dégage beaucoup d'émotion.. Et mérite bien de se retrouver dans mes favoris..

Le côté photographique, couleur, expo, cadrage.. peu importe si tous ces éléments ne conviennent pas à tout le monde.. Il est vrai que c'est un site de photographie, apprécié de photographes, amateurs, pros..

Personnellement, je la trouve très bien et m'arrête tout simplement à "ce qu'elle transmet"... De la chaleur, de la tristesse également.. et tant de choses.. Ce cadrage serré à l'inconvénient de ne pas montrer ce qui se passe autour.. mais à l'avantage de nous laisser imaginer, penser à ce qui l'entoure, à sa vie..
Bref bref bref... Superbe photo...
