Photographer's Note
Architecture in China sometimes has the effect of making humans look small and insignificant against the vast concrete and stone open spaces.
In Congshen temple above the Three pagodas in Dali there are long paths and spaces offering wide panoramic views over Erhai lake, where friendly monks scuttle about between shrines and holy buildings.

Lovely compo, Brian, with the geometric lines of steep stairway and the walls (I esp. like how you captured them)... The lady (I guess) stands out nicely in her clothes and umbrella in attractive color against the grey backgrounds... well done, Daniel

hi brian, great composition, very well spotted indeed. The contrast between the figure and the stone steps is excellent. Perhaps the person could be a little higher and to the right in the frame, but this is a very minor criticism. Well executed photograph. TFS Chris

Hi Brian, this is really a good picture that you present here, your title feets perfectly was i was thinking while watching your picture at first sight.
The zoom worked well here and you were not shaky to got so much sharpness. I love how the eyes are closed into the frame, very graphical shot with a key element ie this old man.
Congratulations

Hi Brian,
Brilliant capture with elder prayer climbing the staircase while her/his clothes creating a splendid contrasts. I would like to see a pure shot (without cropping) that include only prayer and staircase. Your shot is also very well captured, congratulations.
Friendly Regards,
Ertugrul

Hi Brian!
Great title for this shot, you must know I`m a physiotherapist and work a lot with very old people....
The composition is perfect with the placement of this monk and the is a nice graphism with these many lines.I like too the contrast of the blue tones with the bright orange ones of the monk`s robe and his umbrella.A great shot!!!

Aaagghh, another monk! Just joking - this shot works well, but I think a tighter framing would have worked even better, getting rid of the walls at the top and the side, and isolating the monk against the steps. Steps and monk, that's all we need.
Your off-centre placement works very well though. Just a shame that he wasn't ascending the steps slightly to the right so that the tip of his umbrellas wasn't touching that edge.
Good stuff Brian.
Cheers,
Ben
