Photographer's Note
The Beijing couryard
is a typy of traditional Chinese couryard house,
poularly known as"siheyuan',
which are home to many Beijing residents
who live in Hutongs.
Three families or even more live in a couryard,
which make them very close.
They know each other very well,
if they need a cabbiage or other help,
they simply knock their neighbor' door.
Children living in the couryard
may have more fun than those living
hight rise apartment.
they enjoy brotherhood and
sisterhood witheach other.
Merry Christmas to all of you!

Hi Mingfang! I remember these boys very well... they were so cheerful and playing so much. This was also the day I met you! I like the wide-angle you use, to show a lot of the scene. Nice job.

Hi Mingfang. A wonderful candid capture of two happy kids. I love all your work from the hutongs - and you are so right about the community spirit that can't be replicated in high rise apartments. Therefore it makes me sad on every trip to Beijing that I see more and more of the hutongs being bulldozed to the ground the make way for apartments. Cheers . . . David
