Confucius Fans, a photo from Shandong, East

Photographer's Note

Confucius (Chinese: 孔夫子; pinyin: Kǒng Fūzǐ), lived from 551 BCE to 479 BCE) and was a Chinese thinker and social philosopher.

His philosophy emphasized personal and governmental morality, correctness of social relationships, justice and sincerity. These values gained prominence in China over other doctrines during the Han Dynasty(206 BC–220 AD) and have been a cornerstone of Chinese society ever since.

His teachings can be found in the Analects of Confucius (論語), a collection of brief aphoristic fragments, which was compiled many years after his death.

This picture was taken outside the Confucius Temple in Qufu, the master's hometown. Besides the temple complex you can also visit the master's family mansions and gardens and dine on delicious dishes reputedly favoured by the Kong family itself.

Just outside of town is the impressive Confucius Forest, where the great master and many of his descendants lie buried. Pictures of this impressive place, one of my favourites in China, I uploaded earlier.

I used this shot on the cover of the photoalbum of our latest China trip. Only later did I spot that fly on one of the fans...

Hi, Benny -
Creative subject and nice composition. The framing, with only partial fans showing at the bottom, suggests a lot more fans to the imagination, but including more actual fans would have crowded the shot. The detail is very good. Could not spot the fly, though... Well done.

Benny,
Not the best subject matter for me - "I'm not a fan!" - but you've got good detail, and strong depth of colour - from the correct exposure.

Hi Benny, good luck for this evening game even if i think you have 90% chance to qualify, if you score one goal it's done.
Well i have to congratulate you for your gallery, you have such an interesting eye, you see good compositions and yes i do agree with you when saying " we travel very slow to really take in the place i visit", it's the best way to feel the place, to smell it and find good shots.
Very graphical one, very effective on my eyes.
Excellent
