Photographer's Note
‘Tbilisi - Traditional reflected in modern’
Tbilisi is a city in transition.
Everywhere in the center of town you find beautiful but often very weathered traditional houses with one or more wooden balconies. One of the advantages of these balconies is that they facilitate heating in winter and make the rooms cooler in summer.
New buildings are sometimes constructed in the traditional style, especially in the district at the foot of the Narikala Fortress.
But bold modern architecture is also to be found in Tbilisi and sometimes directly opposite the traditional one.
The picture shows distorted reflections of traditional houses in the glass facade of a modern building.

Hi, These traditional houses reflected in modern building have fantastic shapes. Splendid patchwork. I like specially the upper part, it resembles impressionists' paintings.

Salut paul,

Mooi fotowerk Paul, goed gedaan, bedankt.
Groeten uit Oost-Vlaanderen,
John

Hello Paul,
The juxtaposition of the two styles has created a fine opportunity for you as a photographer. It has created a very modernistic, abstract piece of art, colourful and appealing to the viewer.
Are the buildings symbolically screaming at each other or accepting the differences and living in harmony!
Have a great day,
Bev :-)

Dear Paul,
Very interesting composition and reflection.
Have you combined two or more photos? as on the upper part I can see half of the monument Deda Kartlis (Mother of Georgia) from Narikala fortress and the traditional houses with wooden balconies.

Beautiful reflection of the town over the modern building, Paul. The concaved glassed windows show a different scene on each one separately.
Light was favorable, and clarity was super.
Have a nice Friday.

Bonjour Paul,
J'aime beaucoup cette composition très originale qui se joue de tout ce qui se passe autour de cet immense miroir et qui fait bien ressortir les couleurs très variées.

Hello Paul,
This attractive and amusing photo captures the essence of old Tbilisi very well. I was there last year and was very inspired by the architecture, old and new. I didn't observe this place but I am glad you did.

Hi Paul,
What a neat shot, the combination of old and new to which you eluded is fantastic! My mind has been taken on a bit of a frenzied journey here, and I like it. :) We see many pictures of reflections, but not often do I recall seeing those with more of an abstract appeal. A good idea to utilize a tight frame to accentuate the distortion and elements in play. I really like the approach to this image, and the execution has netted a delightful result. Have a great weekend ahead.
Friendly regards,
Jason

Hello Paul,
Wonderful reflections with striking warm cold color contrasts between the red, yellow and blue. The distortions add an abstract mood. Excellent sharpness and superb color and saturation. Well composed with the horizontal bar at top well positioned over the 1/3 axis. Tfs!

Hello Paul,
the visual effect you achieved is amazing and looks more like a painting.Distorted reflections and the particular window panels make also puzzle alike feeling of the scene(and also seems like every part of it would depict different scene).
Magnificent visual effect!
Have a nice day

Ciao Paul
Complimenti
Ciao e buona settimana

Hi Paul,
a clever composition, where you used the reflections of an elegant old architecture on the glass facade of a modern building, creating an awesome image.
Light and colours are managed perfectly, and the framing is well chosen.
Well done.

Hi Paul
I like how you have the 'real' piece of surface in this photo, those horizontal lines near the top. They help to break up the reflected pattern and keep it real in a way :)
everything is twisted and turned over, warped and bent.
looks great.
enjoy your Sunday

Hi Paul
What an excellent abstract effect in the first instance, a sensational shot and puzzles the way you move about to make this shot when each glass panel shows a different view of the buildings nearby and you get a completely different set of distortions. Isn't it wonderful the way glass plays with reflections, patterns and distortions. It's so clear, crisp and lovely deep contrasty colours with excellent reference points of reality. It is wonderfully dynamic so well envisioned in the first instance. Smashing!!
Best regards

Hello Paul,
I like this picture very much and think it's exciting to combine what we see in this rich frame with the word "transition" that you used in your note regarding the city of Tblisi. I love the play of recognizable elements, patterns and colours, the sense of wavy movement and the feeling that what we're looking at is fragile and unique. You handled lighting and contrasts in a remarkable way. The more natural a view like this looks, the more fascinating the photo, in my opinion. I'm glad you didn't accentuate colours and contrasts and that you captured such a varying palette and such a nice mood. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a great evening,
Ourania

This really works for me! I love the Dali-like melted reflections and the colours - more so n the right hand side of the shot but artistically it is right up my street.

Hi Paul
Colourful and almost abstract image. You created a work of art in its own right.
When I visited Tbilisi in 2011 the centre looked like a big building site. I bet there are many more new buildings there now.
Best wishes

Dag Paul,
Groet Rob
