Un dimanche ordinaire sur le Dasaswamedh Ghat, le ghat principal de Bénarès, à l’heure de la Puja matinale.  La pūjā est une cérémonie d'offrande et d'adoration de la divinité, en l’occurrence ici la déesse Ganga, la rivière Ganges. Selon ceux qui la pratiquent, le déroulement d'une Pūjā est analogue à l'accueil d'un invité. On lui rend hommage et on lui offre des mets qui ont une valeur symbolique particulière. Une Pūjā est un rituel qui se réalise en faisant concorder pensées, actions et paroles.  Dans la société Hindoue, la Puja tient un rôle essentiel. C’est l’Acte, avec un grand A, à accomplir chaque jour. Cela explique l’indolence dans laquelle se passe le reste de la journée : les autres tâches sont secondaires.

Pūjā (Sanskrit: reverence, honour, adoration, or worship) is a religious ritual performed by Hindus as an offering to various deities or distinguished guests. Here to the goddess Ganga, the river Ganges.  It is done on a variety of occasions and settings, from daily puja done in the home, to temple ceremonies and large festivals, or to begin a new venture. Puja is modeled on the idea of giving a gift or offering to a deity or important person and receiving their blessing

Hello Patrick - This is a fabulous shot. The colours are vivid and wonderful and the crush of people on the banks of the Ganges making puja is a spectacle that both fascinates and delights the eye. What a bright and cheerful image, this looks like a box of crayons! :) The array of colors is spectacular, and the moment captured speaks volumes of the culture and importance of the Ganges. This is such a marvellous shot, I don't know where to begin. The colours, the sense of life and dynamism, the crazy chaos that is India...all so skilfully represented in this visual feast. I could look at this for hours and still find something new to talk about. Even the light on the water is magic, what an amazing experience you have shared with us, and shared with us so beautifully.

C'est toujours etonnant q'il y a si beaucoup de gens qui se baignet dans les rivière indienne, considerent la pollution.

Stunning shot at the ghat teeming with life with the prevalent devotees in myriad of colours! and the contextual surrounding. The composition is wonderful, the fact that this really focus on the main subject full of religious emotion. La vue de cette foule bigarrée et très colorée est tout simplement impressionnante ! Le plus surprenant à mes yeux d'européenne reste la répétition hebdomadaire d'un tel rassemblement. Je suppose que tu as dû bien ressentir la ferveur au moment de prendre la photo.

This is beautiful image, so rich in culture, also rich in colors. The activities of worship brought all of them together. At time I feel I would be suffocated with so many people, but viewing it from a distance is an amazing experience. So much to see and so much details to discover.

This ritual reminds me some Christian stories from the Bible. Impressive scene, When I had visit Mimbai I looked for similar actions, but perhaps they were busy ;)

Celle-là me donne envie de retourner aussitôt que possible à Varanasi!

À cause du temps froid qu'il faisait lors de ma première visite, je n'ai pas eu la chance de voir tous ses pèlerins agglomérés ainsi sur les ghats et dans le Gange. Quel spectacle incroyable, en terme de couleurs, de spiritualité et d'exotisme dont on ne peut se lasser. En juxtaposition avec les murs délabrés, cette scène semble intemporelle.
