Photographer's Note
Taken inside the Juna Akhara on an off day during the 2001 Kumbha Mela. The sepia tone was a mistake at the printers in Bangkok, but I liked it and stuck with it.
This image is the cover shot for the documentary film "Kumbh Mela: Songs of the River", available on Amazon.com.

2013??? i 'll be so old by then. maybe i can disguise like this guy and will pass unseen;-)) lol
or maybe i'll settle for a smaller version of it... in 2004? oups, just missed it...
you did a great job with this series Bennett. it is an exceptional testimony of this ceremony not so much otherwise advertised or known... this portrait is no exception.. the sepia, though not by choice suits well to this portrait IMO. anymore to come???

great juxtaposition of red and dark tones, with this sadhu still being part of the fiery swirl of life he still gazes at.
