Photographer's Note
Located 26 Km north of the city of Aurangabad in western part of India, are the cave temples and monasteries at Ellora, excavated out of the vertical face of an escarpment. View Map
Interestingly, Ellora, unlike the other nearby famous cave site of Ajanta, was never 'rediscovered'. Known as Verul in ancient times, it has continuously attracted pilgrims through the centuries to the present day.
Extending in a linear arrangement, the 34 caves contain Buddhist Chaityas or halls of worship, and Viharas, or monasteries, Hindu and Jain temples.
Spanning a period of about 500 years between the 6th and 10th century AD, the earliest excavation here is of the Dhumar Lena (Cave 29)
Ellora has been designed as a World Heritage Site, to be preserved as an artistic legacy that will continue to inspire and enrich the lives of generations to come.
This is the entrance to cave 21 with sculptures of Hindu Gods on the facade. I wanted to capture the perspective, but this lens was not wide enough

Dear Dada,
How r u !!!!
Certainly not the best from you.
You have cut both the upper side and the lower side of the pic. However you tried well to capture the atmosphere of the caves.
Colours are very nice.

Hi Angshuman,
The diagonal line made by the pillars is giving depth to the composition. The point of view is showing the details of the sculptures and of the pillars. The presence of the people is animating the scene. Have a nice day.

Bonjour Angshuman,
J'aime beaucoup le point de vue choisit pour construire cette image. Il donne une superbe ligne de fuite avec de très beaux détails architecturaux.La touche de couleur de la robe de la dame donne un beau point d'orgue.

Hello Angshuman,
These world famous statues would have been beautiful on their own, but your photo is greatly enhanced by the inclusion of the woman, who adds life and perfect colours, very well placed in perfect light. She means so much to the composition that even the statues benefit from her presence.
Kind regards,
Gert

Hi Angshu
Interesting post, I didn't know this place existed. You found a good pov and well done on timing to capture the lady wearing traditional clothes - she adds a sense of scale and much welcome splash of colour.
Best wishes

Bonjour, cher Angshu,
Très bon cadrage pour mettre en valeur ces sculptures en bas-relief et cet édifice dont l'architecture bénéficie d'un intérêt manifeste.
La présence d'un personnage coloré agrémente joliment l'ensemble.
Amitiés.

Hello Angshu,
The woman in the bg at left in her bright colourful sari contrasts well against the predominantly grey colorless hues elsewhere in the image. Good sharpness and textural details in the enigmatic ancient statues at right. I like the subtle warm cold color contrast between the warmer, reddish tinted ceiling and the cooler blue tones of the floor. Tfs!

Hello Mr. B,
What a truly magnificent high relief, and photographed to perfection. I like the presence of the young woman dressed in bight red and yellow adding color highlight to an otherwise gray stone (any idea what kind of stone?).
In the note, however, there is a small suggestion. You write, "Spanning a period of about 600 years between the 6th and 10th century AD..." that should be "400-500 years."
The light conditions were ideal.
Warm regards,
Bulent
