Photographer's Note

Often referred to as a 'Paradise on Earth' - Kashmir is known all over the globe for it's picture perfect beauty. In addition to the beautiful snow-clad Himalayas and numerous lakes, it is blessed with a richness of flora and fauna that cannot be found anywhere else The beautiful Mughal gardens are a major tourist attraction, but most of all, it is the famous Dal Lake and the houseboats on it that entice tourists to the area.

Anchored on the shores of the lake, the houseboats have a traditional appeal. Known as the floating palaces of Kashmir, they are closely associated with the valley's culture and traditions. Crafted of the finest cedar with intricate walnut carvings, and tiled baths, every houseboat is fully furnished and features spacious bedrooms, washrooms with the latest amenities, and an attendant.

Typically there is a small shikara attached to each houseboat. The boats are available to take the guests anywhere on the lake for sightseeing or shopping. One can even enjoy the experience of shopping onboard, as the shopping boats travel from one houseboat to another offering their goods and services.
