..but they won't get this ball, I tellya. That's a game for kids with 'tude, no meeks down here.

Taken behind Thanjavur city palace. Where would you expect me to be with such golden evening light, fine background and nice ball game? Creeping the corridors with the oldies and staring at bare stone : you kidding me or wot?

As a result, I've never seen what is inside that palace.

You may remember I posted some time ago a pic of a cricket match behind the Taj Mahal, which is located in a northerner part of India.

Strangely enough I haven't seen that much cricket play in southern India, I even had the utmost difficulties and eventually failed to find a cricket shirt of the India team to carry back with me. More kids played other ball games, like basketball or volleyball than cricket. Another proof this is not the same country.

nice one, very well composed, this hand in the corner makes it really good, and the temple in the background works really well. very good technically, makes me think why I did sell my 17-40... good stuff, so you love India, don't you? I'll be there in 9 days ;)

When one sees such a photo, it is usually easy to criticize...for example I could bicker about the ball not clearing the temple's spire, the boy's right shoulder a bit more into the sky...but that is besides the point here in my opinion, because the important elements are the dynamism in the arrangement of geometrical motifs, the social contrast between the temple and the American import, and that single hand on the right, which are the stuff that make this a terrific take.

[But who plays cricket in March in India?? Cricket is played in winter, which is November-January end, sometimes in February...that's it. Then after a month or two of volley ball or, lately, basket ball, it is the time for football (soccer). You were there in the wrong season for cricket. (Desi bhaayias...am I not right?]

THIS angle!!! What incredible point of view, timing, composiiton, colours, Luko! The triangular echoes are simply formidable all over, the way the hand in the right is entering the frame, only to be extended via the long arm of the boy handling the ball and the lovely tilt of the Thanjavur castle itself. The colour of the ball and the tshirt of the boy are splendidly echoing the earth's hues in the sunset under the vastness of the blue Indian sky. Exquisite, subtle, beautiful work, Luko!

Un titre siderant - marrant, emouvant, spirituel, ironique meme, que sais-je? La tu vas tres fort, Luko. Cette nouvelle serie va de plus en plus haut. La confluence du temple, du basket, du bras du shooter, meme cette main noire que l'on voit tout just envahissant le cadre de la droite. Qui d'entre nous ne souhaiterait pas l'avoir prise celle-la.

Amazing POV, nice framing and good freeze of the moment.
The ball rising to the 'Gopuram' or the tower and a hand on the right extreme are just great.

Hey Luko!
Very nice post here, the dynamics and combination of the young generation with the "old" place, shrine, is quite inspiring...You got very close, in the midst of the game, with players around you, and they played like you weren't there at all. The "Creation of Adam" motif (the kid, the ball and the basket) centers the site and you managed quite nicely to "superimposed" them on the ancient shrine, a task which is not easy at all considering the dynamics of the game and people around you.
A very nice take, original in many ways...

Superbe Luko, excellent angle de prise de vue et belles couleurs vives.
J'aime bien ta façon d'intégrer des temples spectaculaires à des scènes de vie de tous les jours.
Bien sûr, on pourrait regretter que la balle ne soit pas complètement sur fond bleu mais ce serait vraiment chercher la microscopique bête.

Salut Luko,
encore une excellente prise, mais celle-ci atteint des hauteurs que seul ce jeune homme semblait atteindre à présent ;)
J'adore ce mélange des genres via un angle de vue mettant le tout en valeur... et puis le petit détail marrant est son bras droit qui est sur le même contour que le temple.
Et l'autre restant admiratif devant ce spectacle, comme nous.

Great photo Luko! Very dynamic composition with beautiful golden light and a marvelous sky and historical background. Only you to photograph palaces in India as sport backgrounds :) All the elements are perfect here. The dancing act of the player is amazing but so is the perspective of the basket pole. That head in front of my eyes and the lonely hand in the right compliments the trick! Wonderful.

An absolutely perfect image Luko, so much so that I could very well picture this being on a billboard advertising Nike. A great angle which takes us inside the game as if we were one of the players. A favourite for me.

le bleu-orange, la ligne pannier ballon bras corps et main perdue dans le coin, ces cheveux noirs en plein centre sur le bas, le pdv, le fond, .... pffffffffff, c'est terrible.
rien à dire, ca part dans les fav et je nettoie mon clavier, j'ai un peu bavé ;)

Jord'India ready for dunking ! Difficile de prendre de telles photo. UL'angle de vue donne encore plus d'énergie à la photo en plus de celle des sujets. Cette oppositon bleu/orange est bien pensé ... tout bon Mr. Luko, enfin presque!

Allez pour pinailler: j'aurais bien aimé avoir le ballonb et le sujet principal plus détachés (trop dans l'alignement de l'arrete du temples) pour remplir cette partie du ciel bleu avec les formes rondes et anguleuses formés par son corps/bras. Donc un cadrage un peu vers la gauche pour moi (bon j'avoue que c'est plus difficile à dire qu'à faire).

Ah zut qu'est-ce quelle fait là cette main ainsi étouffée par les arbustes ;o) ?

et oui je comprends que tu aies préféré rester à l'air libre... y en a marre des bobs FRAM qu'il faut porter et des parapluies en l'air qu'il faut suivre tel henry IV et son panache blanc! c'est interessant comme on a l'impression que ce gamin prend appui sur le temple pour faire rouler sa balle dans le panier.. Et voilà un birdy! oups! n tout cas, je retrouve ton gout pour les compos en triangles et toutes ces lignes de fuite... bien vu luko!

Salut Luko, superbe compo, un tilt magnifique qui me fait penser a du Magnum avec une superbe lumiere en prime... L'expression du lanceur est "terrible". Je ne savais pas que tu etais alle si bas en inde... Je suis au Kerala maintenant et je devrais etre au Tamil Nadu d'ici 2-3 semaines...

Hey Luko,

Tu fais fort... Tant de détails à admirer, tous contribuant au succès et à l’impact de cette scène; l’expression plus vraie que vrai du dunker, sa position déterminée (on ne saura jamais si la balle a traversé le panier, mais il y avait une volonté indéniable), l’autre main qui s’impose dans le coin droit inférieur, comme pour donner un élan supplémentaire et l’autre tête qui ne peut que contempler le geste.

Puis il y a la composition, tout en élévation progressive, suivant l’ascension du joueur et ce temple qui semble constituer une rampe de lancement - on aura rarement vu plus somptueux background à une scène de basketball... Même le support du panier s’incline pour former un triangle, où le ballon aurait pu devenir la cerise sur le sundae, s’il s’était retrouvé au maximum de son parcours, mais la tension, l’instant magique n’aurait pas été le même...

J’adore ces couleurs réduites en nombre, mais multipliant l’impact de l’image.

Celui qui a marqué au cours de ce match, c’est toi...

cette image semble iréelle tant elle semble..Déplacée..
en effet, on s'imagine souvent qu' il n'y a rien derrière ces temples, ou tout autre activité touristique..alors qu'en fait il y a .. la vie..tout simplement..

Geniale cette photo, l'angle de vue est totalement adequate et le Jordan jr ne se debrouille pas trop mal. Sympa le cadre pour un playground....y a pire !

Trop fort ça, cette attitude est jordanesque ;) Son pied d'appel est le bon, sa main gauche protège bien d'une éventuelle défense d'un adversaire ... mais c'est bien connu ça défend pas en inde au basket ;) Seul petit bémol sa main droite "jette" le ballon alors qu'elle devrait le déposer, c'est à dire paume tournée vers le ciel ;)
Quelle photo en tout cas !! C'est à se demander en fait si t'as pas pris plusieurs clichés, atelier découpage, puis recollage des morceaux, scaning et posting ... Les couleurs sont puissante également ... trop fort ce luko

Another fine shot with great dynamic angles and lines that turn everything into a pyramid--the boy's arm, the backboard support and the truly pyramidal city palace. That open mouth is a great touch, adding some intensity, and the cultural contrast is really strong. Regards, Ken.

Great shot!! The low pov, warm golden sunlight of the late afternoon, and the imposing temple in the bg, all look wonderful. Also I love the composition, specially the position of the ball and the jumping boy.
