Yesterday, Francis said me: it's so nice in Bali, what am I doing in Tokyo...
Today, I want to show you another face of Indonesia, this one i shot, but don't usually show in TE.
You remember theese picture I posted of all wooden boats in the old harbour of jakarta;
you can look at them all along the day without boring a minute
sometimes tourists in rented car come to make some pictures and leave,
but if you want more, you can go to the fish market, and behind the fish market, if you really want,
if you are not scared to see real life,
you can discover children like this one, playing with a hammer in a boat,
before you have to go in dark ways, smelling bad, cross water on tight floating wooden footbridges,
here is the fishermen area
I could say the garbage area
here live families in this garbage world, they add themselves garbage, just going out of the "house" and droping a new garbage bag in water, one more among centains
I saw polyomelitic adolescents, mothers searching louses in their children hair...

It's not easy to go on, but here also I met some joyfull children, welcoming mothers...

We are in Jakarta, 10mns walking from here, is the moderngeant commercial area with all what you want...if you have money!

Elle est tres, tres belle cette photo, Joel. je sais pas comment tu as fait, mais meme le detritus flottant sur l'eau est beu... Les couleurs sont d'une extreme delicatesse contre un fond presque sepia.
En meme temps tu nous decris un monde d'une pauv\rete abjecte, le momde mis-apercu dans "The year of living dangerously", le dessous du reve a Jakarta.
Brillante image d'un tres haut niveau.

Arf, la realite est dure parfois a regarder dans les yeux. Qunad on parle d'Indonesie on pense forcement Bali, ca change en effet de belles rizieres en terrasses. Je trouve cette photo reportage tres belle et touchante, tu as su isole cet enfant au milieu de CA...et alerter nos regards.

tu as bien fait de montrer une autre image que celles habituelles vues par les touristes!!! un monde en effet abjecte où des gens sont obligés de vivre, comme dans toutes les grandes villes, les dessous sont ainsi, si tu connais St Petersburg avec son splendide Ermitage, les rues aux alentours sont d une grande pauivreté, alors que l on ne nous montre que les lumières...

côté cadrage je trouve que ton plan est un peu large ...
tu as voulu prendre la globalité mais je ne suis pas certain de ce choix ...

You have shown how it is Joel, in a humane way. I've seen similar scenes in Vietnam.
It is horrible, the garbage, your note, but I feel you have taken this shot in a compassionate way.
The look the boy is giving you speaks volumns.
Daily life for some in Jakarta.

Joël bonsoir - merci de sortir de temps en temps des beautés indonésiennes pour nous montrer cette vie et ces gens très pauvres - en Afrique, tu cotoies la même pauvreté mais avec un système d'entraide plus élevé (je pense) qu'en Asie. C'est à dire si tu as un emploi moyen, tu vas t'occuper de ta famille directe et de tes frères et soeurs - si tu as un peu plus d'argent, la grande famille africaine sera à ta charge - si tu es cadre un peu supérieur, ton quartier viendra te demander de l'aide - encore un peu plus, c'est le village et puis, si tu es vraiment très riche, c'est toute ta région.
Tout celà fonctionne à merveille et tu ne vois pratiquement jamais d'enfants souffrant de malnutrition.
De toute façon, si tu veux vivre en Afrique et t'y fixer, il faut apprendre le partage (ou alors tu ne peux pas moralement tenir).
Ta photo reflète parfaitement la détresse et la solitude de ce petit garçon (qui semble réellement mal nourri et ne va sans doute pas à l'école).

i guess wherever we go we can find two faces of the places: the face for tourists and well-off people, or even "ordinary" ones, and on the other hand - we find the places like the one you show us today; it is natural;
and this image is just great! with just one kid it is so realistic, so natural;
i like this image a lot;

hello, this really sad photo, this little boy there is in rubish, I cant agree with this:( he is like a flower - beauty in the darkness, I admire him much, beauty flower in bad environmental:(
