I was walking down the street in Jogjakarta with my camera hidden in my pack (I've already said this is my favorite Indonesian city). These two girls came up to me with a little camera and insisted on taking my picture with both of them. The novelty of a "Bule" (white) tourist for their scrapbook.

But then I had my chance. After all, they couldn't refuse my photos after I let them take my picture.

Another great close-up... and each one is a small story. Great quality, we can see many details and the woman looks natural. Part of the face is sharp, part a little blur, but for me it doesn't disturb at all because we are so close. Congrat again!

I wonder if the DOF problem has to do with digital reproduction on the net, my guess is that most of these pix that appear like that do not have such sharp/blur contrast originally.
This is an outstanding portrait, Caleb, I can't match that quality....Until next trip. I hope!

Superb dof withthe womans right eye in perfect focus. The colorful headscarf is a bonus. 'Bule' actually means 'moon' eg 'orang bulan' is a 'moon person', ie white.

nice portrait but now that i look at some of my work too and read the critics, i tend to agree that context is what usually lacks to portraits... unfortunately, this one is no exception.. no personal offense, i can get the same critic;-) just wanting to help to go further..

A sideway glance ! You got to be so lucky. She must have like and trust you, to give you this angle. Pretty sharp focus on the right eye, with the blue telekung framing her glance.

HI! Looking at your photos and all this interesting faces I just asked myself :"Why not to try with portraits?" answer, because I don't know how to come and ask. In your note you gave me a Answer:-)
This portrait is simply great. Her eyes, expression, skyn. I love the liht that shows the best, without hard shadows or low brightness.
I like it!!
