Photographer's Note
Kurashiki is a lovely little town once you get off the busy streets. Along the canal are traditional restaurants and shops. When I arrived there was some sort of floating latern ceramony the night before. Under the bridge you can see a bunch of the candles still there. So they hold formation and don't all drift away, they are tethered with string to rocks on the bottom of the canal.
The Japanese people probably have embraced photography more than any other. On group tours there's almost always the group photo (like this one) and it is not uncommon to find one or two people with a giant tripod a bunch of large lenses hanging off of them with the latest Japanese DSLR plus one with a classic Japanese camera. If I live in Japan, I'll look forward to finding a local photography club.
This image is provided more for a record of the place and cultural note rather than artistic photo.

Dan,
I think your comment about the photography goes with this picture, not only obviously, but because (to me at least - maybe it's the colors and the clothing) I think the image has a 1970s/1980s feel about it which always has a nostalgic feeling for me: Growing up in the 70s and 80s, I played around with many different cameras and enjoyed the hobby even back then. Thus, I like any photos that conjure up that sort of feeling.
