‘Luang Prabang - Visitors in Wat Xieng Thong’

Wat Xieng Thong is one of the most important monasteries and temples in Laos and the best known in Luang Prabang.
The name means ‘Temple of the Golden City’ and it is an excellent example of traditional art in the country.
Besides the central shrine hall there are several smaller halls and stupas.

There were quite a few visitors but in that central shrine hall, the ‘sim’, there was one couple that caught my eye. I don't know who they are and what the reason for their visit was, but they brought a photographer. In the ‘sim’ he took a lot of pictures of them in certain positions.

For a moment it seemed as if it was a wedding photographer who photographed the young couple in the most beautiful places. But actually I am not sure.
I was able to take the opportunity and quickly take this photo.

Tu as bien capturé l'expression pieuse des personne. La prise de vue permet de voir les détails des vêtements. La lumière donne un bon rendu aux couleurs de l'image. Bonne soirée.

A great close-up picture of the couple at the monastery.
Warm tones prevailed and fine details of the lavishly dressed man and woman, I assume they are relatively well-off.

This was one of my favourite Wats in Luang Phrabang. The lavishly coloured and decorated interior complements the exterior. Nice catch of this costumed duo praying inside. Tfs!

Hi Paul,I don't even imagine the reason for this photographic set in the temple, perhaps a blessing for the future marriage union, but it was certainly an important stage in the life of this couple. Hello Paul,
I first wondered if these persons were real. Their "outfits" look like taken from a fairytale, and to be honest they look a bit like plastic dolls. But I trust your description of how you happened to be their for their ritual, whatever it was. Maybe a publicity stunt of some kind. You were lucky to be able to steal a few photos for yourself, and that the light was so good. The WS may be of a greater general interest by showing us more of the interior. Now I'm looking forward to an exterior photo of this temple, which was the prettiest I saw in LP. I want to compare the colours of the façade with those in 1973. Photos on TE taken perhaps 10-15 years ago suggested they had faded considerably.

Hi Pul,
the face of the young man is so shiny I thought these are statues and not real people at first.
Brilliant costumes, it does seem like a wedding indeed.
Also the details so well taken care of like the make up or nails of the young lady.

Hello Paul, I have the same impression as Gert, they look like from plastic, especially the guy. Have you tried to touch them to check? The wax figures look more realistic. But the scene is interesting and the clothes are very beautiful. Nice altar with many Buddha statues - from a big one to smaller and smaller.

Interesting also this "flower"

Een goede close-up foto van dit stel in de tempel. Ze hadden zich speciaal gekleed voor de fotoshoot in rijke versierde traditionele kleding met aangename kleuren en verschillende patronen. Mooi werk.

Als je naar de rijkdom van de kleding kijkt zou je haast denken dat hier een prinselijk paar poseert om het volk te tonen hoe vroom zij zijn. De uitdrukking op hun gezichten is daarbij ook zeer interessant. Hij lijkt heel wat geloviger dan zijn partner.
