Photographer's Note
OK, this time you can believe what I am writing in my note.
A few days ago, I uploaded a shot thinking it went together with this shot of Mark's. Well, as it turns out, that was all one big brain fart and you would have been better off believing in the tooth fairy than in my story. This time however, I am certain, as the candlelight gives proof positive that this was not taken under electrical light. Further, my EXIF data now matches that of Mark. Oh yeah, the same monk appears as well.
So, this really was taken during a black out, as Mark and I were walking back from a rather nice restaurant owned by a Hungarian lady whom I never met. You can bank on it.
ISO 1600, handheld, normal post processing, uncropped.

Hi Darren.... Among many of the monk shots here this is one of the few that stands out IMHO... Lovely light... and I like the exposure a lot and the 'ring' around the candle.. Not to mention the concentration in the eyes. A very nice one. Bala

hi Darren. Not much too critique on this photo. it is very well done, the lighting from the candle comes out brilliant and the vertical is well chosen.

quite lovely darren! technically flawless as usual. i should really invest in a faster lense. once again i am impressed by how little noise you have on the pentax at iso 1600 (my shots at 1600 here were nothing comparable, in fact pretty much all my other photos in this temple were crap, i still wonder about the stroke of luck i had with that single one at 1/13 with no tripod!)
as for this one, too bad for the little shadow on the upper arm, for me it's a bit disturbing (sorry among others it was you who "taught" me to become picky :-).. ) but nothing major, and i'm sure with some effort it could be dealt with in ps.
another topic of discussion i'd like to bring up though is the monk looking out of the frame. i don't have any problem with it here, in fact i really like the rather dreamy look in his eyes but luko made some comments on this shot that now keeps me wondering, i was just curious on your take on this.

very nice portrait Darren, very nice light you had - a difficult a bit, so dark, but you have handled it very well, i like this completely black background, the compo is simple, but works well here. maybe there is a bit too much of space above his head - and his hand is cropped at the bottom - moving your cam down a bit would help IMO. nice photo

Hi Darren
That's a very nice composed shot. The portrait is well balanced with the lights from the candle.
What else..cool image.
