Nong Khiaw

Photographer's Note

It seems that I'm stuck in this bridge...so, here it goes a bird's eye view over Nong Khiaw and its harbour on the Nam Ou (river) - just found this image while still passing through my screen the 7500 images that I made in Laos.
Luang Prabang is 150km south, 6 to 7 hours in one of those boats down river - it's a wonderful trip, but it can be dificult to catch one, since there's no much tourists to share the expensive ride. I had lucky, because I got a family with a boat that were coming here anyway, and of course they were happy to make some extra money.
The boat you can see passing by goes up river in direction to the gorgeous village of Muang Ngoi. It takes about an hour and an half and it really worth going to that scenic remote place acessible only by boat.

An interesting and beautiful scenery with a great depth! The colour of the river is amazing and gives a wonderful contrast to the surrounding greenery. Sorrows concerning parking sites seem to be equal everywhere ;-)

el ángulo que has conseguido con el gran angular nos permite ver el río en plano picado y también el paisaje, en una vista espectacular y con mucha profundidad.
Me gusta el grafismo que consigues con este tipo de encuadre, y creo que has hecho un gran trabajo con la exposición, la calidad de imagen y los colores.

Hi Ricardo,
I saw just your previous uploads...but to be honest, they could not impressed me. You should use a bit a panning there, even a bit would make them better, now everything stands still.
But here, here you show a perfect bird eye view in a really excellent composed photo. The colour toning is wonderful, especially on the river were the blue boat steals the show.
Your composition and colour handling with the green colours and the softer blue sky make it all perfect...i like it a lot.

O que mais me impressiona nesta imagem é a cor da água e o facto do rio me parece bastante calmo. Mas certamente que o não será a montante desse local.
Os barcos são muito curiosos, lonogs e estreitos.
A foto está linda. Talvez seja a melhor até ao momento. Gosto muito a composição vertical. com aquela linha de barcos encostada à margem e a criar um separação nítida entre as cores verdes do lado da terra e o castanho da água.

Ola Ricardo, a great POV! Wide angle works here very well as it allows to capture both the boat which is almost right below, the distant hills and everything in between...

I like it a lot, the fine brown and green with good lines for depth and perspective added by the houses and boats, especially the blue one producing the white stream is a very clear capture of good impact. The high POV from the bridge offers a lot from the landscape.

Ricardo, esta foto para mim está estupenda, parece uma do NGeographic. A vista do olho do pássaro é um privilégio, cores, assunto , o pormenor muito nítido do rasto que o barco faz é excelente. Certamente que gozaste bem estas férias em locais pouco comuns para a maioria das pessoas.

I like this because I can see more details of this village and their river.

Vejo que conseguiste livrar-te da tua aversão à ausência de pessoas. :D Mas ainda se sente a presença delas, pois imagino que o piloto do barco em movimento não seja electrónico.
Está fantástica! O rio na diagonal, a envolver a aldeia, com todos aqueles barquinhos coloridos e as montanhas ao fundo formam uma bela compo, além de que as cores, luz e nitidez estão excelentes.

One of the best shots from Nong Khiaw's (now famous in TE) bridge. Love the chocolate coloured water and the contrast the blue topped boat. Also like the boats parked on the bank, waiting for passengers. Fabulous image my friend! I couldn't make it to Muang Ngoi, so will wait for your pix. from there. You took 7500 images in Lao! How many memory cards do you carry?

Hi Ricardo. Just been browsing your Laos posts - this is definitely the best so far - beautifully saturated colours, perfectly composed and such a typical scene of this part of Laos. So glad you made it to Luang Prabang, one of my favourite places in this region - but I fear it will become overrun with tourists like Angkor Wat one day. Thanks for the tip about Muang Ngoi - I will try to get up there next time I am in LP (I will add this image to my favourites as a reminder). Cheers . . . David

Hi Ricardo. Very nice shot with a high POV and a very good depth. The series of boats lined up near the slant shore and especially the sleek one zipping past with ripples in the river and casting a soft shadow made a nice composition. Regards.

The brown colour reminds me The Nile limon who had disappeared since the oppening the Assouan Dam in 1970.
Very nice dominant point of view, colours are very appreciable.

An excellent shot in which the colors are pretty striking. It testify very well what are the true colors of the Nam Ou. I love the place there, with the bridge, and the tiny village in two parts between the mountains and I am happy to see your picture which bring me back straight to that place.
