Photographer's Note
as promised, another one from shwedagon paya, a trully special place. if you ever visit, i recommend you schedule a full day, even if you're not into photography. just hang around, observe the people. singles, couples, families come and go, make their offerings, say their prayers, do their rituals. breathe in the smell of incense, talk to the monks (they'd be more than happy to exchange ideas), witness a genuine spiritualism that is so hard to find in today's modern societies.

Hi Mark,
Very nice composition. I like the meditation mood you have captured.
The monk is well located within the frame.
Superb colors too.

Hello Mark. I personally only find praises to your composition and the your choice of framing all the subjects in this scene. The hand of the statue pointing down seems to mirror the position of the monks head, and the other one point to the Buddha reveals the offering of oneself. This image can be read in so many ways, hence the interest it arises in me.

Luko loves 3's, and we have 3 fascinating thing here, interlocking and adding up to a masterpiece:
1. The HUGE hand which is the same size as the monk and the buddha.
2, The black buddha like a smaller replica of the larger stone ones behind.
3. the monk himself aspiring to buddhahood and already advanced in years.
Brilliant work, whichever way yu look at it, Mark.
Bravo,
Francis

Nicely exposed, good composition and good lighting. The subject matter works well with the monk contrasting well with the Buddha. Thanks for sharing.

Fantastic!
The spiritual references are abundant - and very interesting. I also like the warm glow produced by the ambient lighting.
Well done.

Great shot and very worthy of a TE upload. The large statue behind combined with the concentration of the mans face is what makes the photo work for me. Well done.

much serenity here mark. and beautiful colors.
Very well organized compo, although i think a little bit more distance between the buddhas hand and the monk would have been better. But you do not decide the monk place, do you?
Thanks for this picture mark.
amicalement, michel

Wow! This is a fantastic pic and your comment is really great as well! The composition, colours and low light all seem to work so well and you've done a great job of capturing the moment! I only wish I was consistently creating images of this quality!
Best wishes,

Briliant Mark,
The compostion and colours are outstanding. the three buddhas, (including the monk) at different turns makes the eye follow throughout the shot.
Just so nice, a capture that could have been one of my own.

Hi Mark, Another fabulous image! Very impressive how the large Buddha stretches out his hand just in front of the monk, as if he touches his soul and gives his blessing. The composition is outstanding with your eyes going from the Buddhas to the monk. Thank you for this beautiful moment of meditation! Sabine

I'm sorry to stumble down grossly into the fiesta down here, but I have to say that in my sense this is nowhere as good or inventive as your other shots.
I feel this one like posed, this is a no moment at all shot, more over, this is not a 3 but a 4 composition. I can't take away the second hand and it unbalances the whole.
So I think you've got my feelings here Mark, it lacks the life and move I've been praising in your other shots. On the other hand, I'm not so surprised it has attracted the most positive opinions as it is a bit postcardish, I mean gathering the usual clichés one can imagine about buddhism (elderness=wisdom, monk, buddhas, flowers, etc.). Could work for stock photo, although not my taste.

Big fan of the Buddha, and especially this shot. Very beautiful, belongs in a book. I'm sure Jim Casper at LensCulture.com would love to have this in his Buddha collection.

Hi Mark
An amazing capture. The feeling of prayer in this photo is very intense, and I love the composition. The striking contrast of the flowers on the black statue, and the huge hand of the staute in the background really seems to humble the man, add emphasis to what he is doing. Beautifully done!!
Best wishes
Noel
