Tropical Island, a photo from Cebu, Central Visayas

Photographer's Note

While I was going through my old photos in search for an image with interesting cloud formations, I came accross this photo of my hometown, Bantayan Island. I guess I'm a little bit homesick because I haven't been home for over a year now. Anyway, I noticed that clouds in the tropics looks densier just like the clouds in this photo ... probably because of the high humidity and heat.
By the way, a few postings ago of Cunejo2000, he mentioned that TE members had a get together in the island. The cottages at the tip of the island was where they stayed. Fortunately, the island still enjoy an idyllic atmosphere which is quite a nice escape from the city life.
I hope you like the photo ... something warm to dream about on a cold winter night. A heavy winter can be depressing sometimes ... I usually perk myself up by looking at tropical scenes.

What a puffy gathering Renier, and what a dream place in this month of cold January (unlike this place, for us, januaries are cold, hehe)
How the cumulus looks like a massive explosion is really impressive.

Beautiful tropical landscape with the white beach breaking up the turquoise ocean from the green jungle and beautiful blue sky and its fantastic intricate cloud patterns. Looks like a wonderful spot for boyhood adventures of both land and sea.

Hi Renier. Philippine beaches seem to be some of the best in the world. This compositionis well cropped with one third below the horizon. Colours are very natural. A place to relax by the look of it. TFS. Murray.

KiaOra Renier,

This looks to be an incredible place to have grown up! Many can only dream of these kinds of places. I couldn't resist doing a workshop, so I will post it in about 2 hours when I get the quota renewed. It basically highlights the photo, gives a little crop and adds a frame. You are quite right about the humidity and cloud correlation, the equatorial zones boast the densest clouds in the world (I bet you had no shortage of rain here!). The best element is the small strip of sand and water which contrast sharply against each other. A great scene. Enjoy your weekend.

P.S. Can you change the setting to allow me to post the workshop?

I like the difference between the bright and vividly colored sea, beach and vegetation and the more muted sky with the cotton like clouds... A peaceful spot with nice snorkeling down there, i suppose!

A very tropical feeling to this pretty composition. I like the point of view and how the two landfalls seem to come down to meet each other from either side of the frame. The clouds add much to the ambiance. Very good tones and clarity.

Just what we need to warm us up here in the Northern Hemisphere. It does look like Paradise and those huge clouds add plenty of drama. There are some beautiful tones of blue.

Love the different tonalities of blue, the white sand beach and the palm trees all together creating a paradisaic view. The clouds are also adding more atmosphere to the scene.

I do not exactly know where this is in the Cebu province (don't have a map at hand here) but it looks beautiful and serene. The clouds are pretty impressive indeed. Will have a look for the formations next time I am in the tropics. It looks like you might have used a high iso rate if you look at the clouds, I could be wrong though.

Thats the place to go now in the middle of our winter!
There are three things making this picture:
the ocean, the very white beach and those lovely cumulus clouds. Good composition with a very low horizon and a big sky with the clouds. Perhaps I`d like to see a little more contrast to it.

a very powerful scene with all the clouds in the background. That shot deserves a polarizing filter! The solor of the sea and the contrast around the clouds would be so much better and make the image pop out of any screen.
