3’s a Union: The Sea, The Surge & The Mangroves: “Helping Us Live on the Edge”

A breathtaking view of the lagoon surrounded by mangrove forest in Occidental Mindoro popularly known as the Apo Reef National Park. Mangroves are locally known as bakawan and usually grow in tropical coastal swamps. With the effects of climate change becoming highly pronounced, mangroves help stabilize the coastline by dissipating wave energy, thereby protecting our coastal areas from storm surge.

I dedicate this photo to my son Zen which marks his 15th birthday and coincides with the worldwide celebration of the International Day of the Forests every March 21st.

Hello Michelle,

Your photograph is spectacular, with the lagoon completely enveloped by a mangrove forest. I've never seen anything quite like it. Were you standing on a hilltop, or in a high building?

yes, this is very sweet indeed. Think about it, how often do we get to see in person, a huge lagoon like this! Not very often at all.

it is a beautiful view, easy to see why you would want to capture it.
